"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

I am getting back to building a small Lionel OO layout to take to shows.  The original plan was to duplicate the dealer demo layouts that Lionel made.  Which is the basic loop of 3 rail track, a whistling station and the train, in my case the early 1938 0080 set without whistle in the tender.   But its a bit plain.  Right now the table has indoor/outdoor green carpet(grass) on it(easily removed).  It does help with noise abatement though.  I am torn between sticking to what could have been built by the average OO modeler in 1938, or just doing my own thing and leaving the grass carpet in place.   Here is how the table looks now and a pic of an original demo layout.      AD

Here is the bare table without the grass

Here is the same table with the grass mat and OO Christmas set up a couple years ago, take the tree and ceramic buildings away and go with tinplate houses, bungalow, villa ect is one option

I do have some mastic matting to put under the table top to help with noise if I decide to build this.  I have also seen versions with the Lionel Villa instead of the station.  More tinplate houses could be added obviously.   Now which direction do I go?   I have the track, 1938 full scale freight set. no transformer or other bits yet.  I do have the off white paint for the table.   Thoughts?  Opinions?     AD

I have the track mounted down on the "grass" carpet for the moment whist I decide which direction I want to go with this.  I had to put some shim under 3 sections of track to get the warp out of them when screwed down as they were low in the middle between the feet.  Not one of Lionels better ideas to put "feet" on roadbed, should have been totally flat like the 2 rail track was, but then it probably would be the shape of a banana like the 2 rail sections are most commonly found.

When I first read the title of this thread, I read it as "Vintage style American OO layout build, need onions."

Seeing that you have a freight set, I would go with commercial structures like a freight station, small industries, etc.
