Hello All!
I have an electronic e-unit (640-8112-116) from a Lionel FT diesel and one of the resistors on the board is bad. I have determined it to be a 100 ohm resistor (color band: brown-black-brown-gold). How might I tell what wattage it is. It is one of the larger-sized ceramic resistors.

Without an actual measurement, it's hard to say. Looks about the size of a 2W metal film resistor.
It is 17 mm long and 6 mm wide. I think that makes it a 3 watt resistor.
That's a reasonable guess. 
Looks like it gets pretty hot. You might mount the new one up a tenth of an inch or so off the board.
You could also just stick a higher wattage resistor in the location, there's no reason that wouldn't work and you'd be sure it had the power handling capability.
