Following my contribution last week discussing the Lehigh & Hudson River which was best known for its bridge line service between eastern Pennsylvania and Maybrook Yard, I've decided to stay with the Maybrook theme this week and present equipment decorated for two additional roads, the Lehigh & New England and New Haven, which operated into that expansive facility. Pictured below are Life-Like N scale models of ALCo's 1500 horsepower cab unit which was instrumental in the early dieselization efforts of the LNE and New Haven with orders delivered to NH and LNE in 1947 and '48 respectively. Multiple unit consists of these locomotives served both roads well and the type achieved a solid record of performance with each.

Introduced in 2000, the Life-Like model represents its prototype proudly. Sold as an A-B consist with both units powered, each features a split die cast frame enclosing a five pole motor equipped with dual flywheels driving all wheels. Slow speed control is superb and the pulling power is impressive. The body is accurately detailed and the model's dimensions are properly proportioned. This locomotive is of an exponentially higher quality than the Life-Like equipment many of us knew back in the 70s and 80s.

Last night, I attended another operating session on the Lake Erie, Cincinnati, & St. Louis Railroad, which is owned by John Goodhart.  John has been running operating sessionsfor about 2 to 3 years now, and has a wonderful basement sized HO railroad that is double deck, with staging at both ends of the railroad.  The amount of work that he has accomplished in the appx. 7 years he has been building the railroad is phenomenal.  Basement size is about 50 x 25, chock full of railroad, crew lounge and bathroom.  John models the mid 1960s.

I operated two road jobs, the first being a C&O interchange, Train 64, which was identified as C&O 7004 (the lead unit).  Train 63, which was the westbound train, ran from the B&O / C&O interchange to Glenwood Yard on the LEC&S during the last session.  I started the session by having to uncouple from Train 63, run around the train, tie on to the consist for Train 64, get my track warrant, and get out of town.

Since "modeling jobs" is a big part of proto-ops, I'm including my three track warrants for viewing along with a photo of C&O 7004 East before it went off on the B&O / C&O interchange.   There were three track warrants issued.  One initial one,147 which gave me trackage rights all the way from Glenwood yard to B&O / C&O Interchange.  That was issued at 8:50 PM.

On the second one, I received a call from the dispatcher that voided order 147, which was warranty 148, which had me take the siding at Middletown.  Once I got there, I released track warrant 148, and was issued a new warrant, 152, which then got me to the B&O / C&O interchange.

My second road job was an extra from Glenwood yard to Columbus, with locomotive 334 on the point.

This was yet another wonderful night of operating the LEC&S.  John is a wonderful host, snacks and drinks during the session, coffee and cake after with some stimulating conversation.

Regards,

Jerry

Awhile back I traded a MTH Mohawk for a Broadway Ltd PRR T1 steamer with a forum member. Have not had a chance to operate it until this morning on a club layout at the Autumn Rails train show near Asheville NC. I am impressed with this little steamer. Good smoke and nice sounds. The fella who tested it for me praised these particular models and said his can haul quite a long string of cars.

Another fella was running the BL PRR M1 I think it was. It had terrific sounds for an HO model and was quite impressive.

There is a store here (Factory Direct Trains) that is operated by Joe Grubba who is the brother of Bob Grubba who imports the Broadway Ltd line in FL. Joe was watching while we ran it awhile. He seems a decent sort...
