Again saw this train parked on the rails by the main street here in Spencer at the NC Transportation Museum (NCTM). Every so often it is here,
Some layout photos, plus the Amtrak Downeaster slicing through the fog on its Saturday Feb. 25th morning trip to Boston.
I've recently been purchasing some early 90's Lionel Auto Carriers.
Here's a shot taken just a few feet to the right of the one taken above of the bulkhead flat car by my son Steven. This is a pair of Lionel PRR GP-30's which he renumbered and I weathered. Shot was taken on behalf of John Sethian to be used in a presentation he will be giving regarding modeling of the PRR in O Scale at the PRRT&HS annual meeting. All SPF's should attend!
As some of you know, I worked closely with Joe Hayter, owner of Weaver Models, on a number of projects, starting with the O scale line poles. One thing we talked about was creating O scale models of this NS (ex Conrail) work train consisting of trailers mounted on flatcars. for a number of reasons, it never came to fruition. Would have been marketed (non-prototypically) in other contemporary RR liveries as well. So what do you all think of that idea?
I really enjoy seeing all the great layouts on WPF. I guess I'm taking a risk this week of showing a part of my layout, on the CB&L lines, (Crappy basement and Layout) that really needs work. I really need to get to work on getting the trolley line in good, secure, and scenic shape.
My initial version of the NCTM caboose train pulled by the museum's Southern E8 #6900 (by MTH).
This maybe a harbinger of things to come.
Playing with this MTH E8 I finally noticed things that did not notice when I tested it at the local toy train shop.
On start-up I thought the sound was stumbling and repeating. Then listening closely realized what I heard was first one prime mover start-up and then the second prime mover start-up. Also they(MTH) copied Lionel in that once put into "gear" forward or reverse the cab light extinguishes. Not sure I really like this since I go back to the late 40's early 50's with Lionel diesels where the cab stayed illuminated.

Finished the mountain & tunnels, along with part of the station area. also ordered more scenic backings & some background buildings. Going to be working on that next.
REALLY looking good Chris!!!

MTH is following Rule 17 Lighting. It is entirely understandable that Lionel does it too, but MTH isn't copying Lionel on this. I believe this is a function that can be enabled/disabled with your DCS remote.
Pretty Chooch....
In keeping with my remembrance of the 60th anniversary of the day NYO&W ceased its operations, here are the 44 tonners in their delivered and then re-painted liveries....
March 29th 1957, the last day of the O&W.

Local commerce interrupted by a Southern Pacific Wildflower Special near the west end of the Walong loop in the Tehachapi Mountains. Espee No. 1277 is a San Francisco painted lady on holiday at the request of the fan excursion organizers.
One of our club members is pretty handy at kit bashing and scratch building. Here is one of his latest efforts. He ran this last weekend at the Allentown Spring Thaw show. For those of you who do not know, this is a CF7. CF7s were built in a variety of cab configurations and frame configurations. What you see here is correct for this engine on the Reading and Northern. Underneath is an MTH GP frame etc.

Very nice CF7. I would love to know how he did it, I have a couple I want to build.

No, you cannot turn off Rule 17 lighting effects from the DCS Remote, or in any other way.
Here is my Reading GP30 sitting on a siding of the Independent Hi railers...we just got word that we will not be at the upcoming Greenberg show in Edison.
Great photo's this week from everyone!
We started the week running my first locomotive, my dad's old 2025....
Then I received a package from Mario's....
The Lionel LC+ Lackawanna Hudson! This is my first LC+ steam locomotive and all I can say is that I'm hooked!! It's going to get a lot of run time
Oh and since I'm working the city scene, I decided to remove a few of the buildings so I could run wiring and work on the flats along the wall, someone has decided that it would make a great spot to eat lunch!

Thanks, Barry. I was at work and didn't have my copy of the DCS Companion to look it up.

Actually the critter is a K line product I picked up at a train show for $70. It even has a smoke unit and marker lights! Glad you got acquainted with American beer. I think alot of us did!
Neil,
You asked about camp cars. The club member who built the CF7 above also has made a camp car train. There are 9 different cars in his set. IIRC, he bought the vans in kit form off the web. He said they were some of the most difficult items he has ever assembled. Very delicate, lots of small pieces, and very fragile. The vans have several different window configurations, and he modeled most of them. The flat cars were separate build items. Here is one of the finished pieces.

Thanks Pat. Sorry I missed this one. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one at the Timonium show next month.
