I can’t resist posting another couple of pictures of my MTH UP Schnabel. This thing is huge:

Running some trains on the garden railway club track. Now that I have large enough curves to run a big enough engine, I was able to pickup a used MTH Big Boy from a fellow OGR forum member. With the Proto 3-2 system to run on 2 rail track you just unscrew the center rail pickup rollers and flip the switch from 3 to 2 rail and it runs great. I added a long string of those colorful billboard reefers all 2 rail and painted up a UP caboose with some decals I had on hand and matching it to a photo of a real caboose on line. On the other track are some of my set of passenger cars that I have been painting up to match a new PGE steam engine coming soon. Took a lot of time to test mix paints till I got a color close to original railway color, and some custom decals made. Added lots of figures inside.  And pics of the new Menards Life Saver tank cars that are nice and bright and colorful and the kids will enjoy seeing at the train shows. My grandson is thrilled with the new Big Boy his favorite engine from watching train videos, and the Life Saver cars we were running on the kids play area floor layout. He had fun running the trains the other day and will be regular on weekends running the Big Boy and his other favorite trains.

Fabulous! Great looking billboard reefer train - looks like no problem for the Big Boy ! Passenger cars look great too.

For a small railroad, URR is very busy.

There's lots going on down by the tower!

It's now rush hour and the commuter trains are coming and going.

Ahhhh ... a sweet spot down by the lake.

Everyone is in good humor when they hear the bells jingling of the ice cream truck.

Morrison Door closed early this Friday afternoon because of a shortage of jambs and headers used in the assembly of their pre-hung door product.  As a gesture of goodwill from the "boss," the parking lot was once again opened for the much acclaimed Friday night car rally...the landscaping crew is working hard to complete the spring clean-up.  The crew is late this year because of an employee shortage, and the "boss" choked at the price of this year's mulch application

Some railfanning from my recent trip to Philadelphia........my son got married.....

.....with grand dog Rufus railfanning in the dog park of his high rise along the Schuykyll River.....the old B&O line from Baltimore to Philly, which in Philly goes up the east side of the river.....

.....without the train in the way, looking across the river at 30th Street Station and the Northeast Corridor.....

I always tell Rufus that he is a lucky dog to have such a great railfanning site!

.....on one of the may walks Rufus and I took......I always take in these sites.....

Suburban Station, whose marquee lights still illuminate the plaza at night nearly 60 years after the Pennsylvania RR transitioned into the PennCentral....

....and, Reading Terminal, whose market still serves great food and is always a destination for me.....

Just finished this project.  I was shocked yet so pleased with Protocraft Decals for making caboose and boxcar sets for my old Home Road which spanned only four Texas counties but has at least three books written about it.

Congratulations! The first photo I saw of your son was in a photo with what I believe was a Legacy remote and now he's married...wow! Very nice photos and I must say you clean up well, lol.

It is 1949 and a Pennsy H10 is doing some shifting and local freights.  These dependable and versatile engines started showing up in 1913 as mainline freighters and many lasted until 1956.

How do I know this is an H10?  The H8, H9, and H10 shared the same boiler and running gear, but they had different appliances.  The H9 and H10 had the sloping external steam pipes from the smoke box to the cylinders, while the H8's were internal.  The most noticeable difference between the H9 and H10 was the H9 had snifters where the pipe met the cylinder, and the H10 didn't.  Since my Weaver model does not have the snifters (a round valve) it is an H10.

NOTE: Lionel is marketing their H9 as an H10.  If you buy one of the H10s, hide the box and call it an H9.

Gordon, that outdoor layout is fantastic! I'm glad the Big Boy went to a great home and will bring joy to a young kid. Your Big Boy looks awesome pulling a long train and yes, the MTH Proto 3-2 rail system is easy to run. Enjoy!

This was my project this week. New battery box on one of our engines. This engine is one of the two  GE demonstrator super 7’s. 2215 and the 2216 the P&W still has the the 16 and the 15 is here at the CSO.
Was also able to catch one of Amtraks 50th anniversary engines. Came down on the Vermonter along with a couple of the Geometry cars.

SIRT, great work as usual.  Is that circus train on the siding in Uniondale? Also what do you use as the backing for your pallet loads?

Stang, I always wanted one of those Schnabels but having a radially challenged layout I could never bring myself to shell out $150 for are car that would have such limited track to run on.  Eventually I got lucky on eBay and found one for <$60, without the transformer.  With all those trucks it tracks well and has less overhang than a RK center I Beam flat car.  One of these days I've got fabricate a transformer, shorter than the MTH one but still massive enough to need the Schnabel.

Congrats to Chris and Peter.  Peter you clean up real nice.  The hospital should have kept you on just to attend fund raisers.  You would have fit right in.

I have been on the fence with buying a MTH Budd RDC set for a long time. Finally, I saw a used Susquehanna set with Protosounds 3 at a good price, I couldn’t resist and pulled the trigger.
