Well Scott is going on a well deserved break with his family, so I am starting this weeks Photo Fun with a shot of Reading Steam that soon will hopefully be riding the rails on my new basement layout. I'm in the beginning stages of stripping a Chessie Steam Special version of this engine to add a second T-1 to my Roster.

Reading Steam!

I actually have the 4 Western Maryland Safety Cabooses that Weaver produced about 3-4 years ago.  Very cool, I need to add this one.  Thanks for showing it

Jeff and Mike: Nice photos this week.

Well, the Apprentice is getting ready for school to start and has taken a leave from the club for some school projects. A couple of weeks ago, I gave him a spare UP Excess Height box car to see what he could do with it. He spotted a prototype and wondered if he could duplicate the grafitti.

My new (to me) 1971 Schilke B1 custom trumpet with my Austin Custom Brass custom mouthpiece. Schilke is considered one of the best manufacturers of trumpets out there, crafting each horn by hand. There goes my train budget

Soon I will have 2!

Sitting in the kitchen on a beautiful Maui day working on a single stall engine house for a Little Joe or two unit box cabs in helper service in my mountain area. Finding a engine house long enough was the big challenge. Most of the house is primed. Next step is paint then wire lights. All windows and doors are metal except main doors. Don

I really would like to do this and would love to hear more how you went about it!

Hi Mike,

Several years ago, the bay had several Hudson Models 700T tenders which were for the scale Hudson.  I purchased a tender and a plastic shell for another.  Then, comparing the 700T to a picture of the prototype (see below), I realized that if I cut the full tender down a rivet line and then took one section between the rivets from the second, the length would be close to the prototype (close enough for me anyway). I used strip brass to fill in the gap of the frame.

The Prototype is actually the tender used on a NYC Mohawk (same for Lionel 6-18009).  Using the prototype picture, I made decals for the sides.

I then airbrushed the tender, and once dry, I added the decals.  I used styrene to cover the coal bay, and then got a coupler to go in the front where the draw bar normally went.

Below are pictures of the prototype and of my tender during the extension:

Before I made this one, I actually made one out of a single 700T tender which I still have, but don't use:

Picked this up from the bay last weekend for next to nothing - It's a repainted Lionel # 600.
I added some decals to the frame & body & painted the handrails to try & match a real Southern NW2. I just have to install lights. I think it looks awesome & it runs great too!
