WOW, It's Labor Day Weekend all ready. Let's get Weekend Photo Fun launched.

Last Friday I found myself in Bowling Green, KY. and drove by the old L&N Station.

They had a nice L&N E-8 in the back. I don't believe Lionel or MTH have ever done a scale L&N E-8..it would make a nice model.

Hats off to my wonderful friend Vernon Hart of Springfield, MO. Vernon and his wife came over to visit us Tuesday night and brought this gift to me. He had an On30 Steamer in pieces and halfway assembled it and made it a load on a flatbed for me. Please take a look at my great present, I think he did good, what do you think?

Thanks for looking, by the way, if you right click on a picture and then click "open link in new window", you will get a full screen view.

Scott's right about a good L&N model needed.

We acquired these handsome Williams E7s several years ago and they are pretty nice but with the advances in the detail available today, the L&N scheme would really look great!

Heh guys, if someone did offer these E's in L&N, would Madison passenger cars be a good match, or streamlined? We get a lot of people asking for L&N.

Have a great weekend Everyone!

Down by the harbor....the tugs are working hard this morning and above them the early morning sun glints on the sides of trains as they take the citizens to work downtown.....and, like Roger said above, for a full page view just right click on a picture, click "open link in new window".....

The National Capital Trackers return to one of my favorite places, The College Park Aviation Museum (The Field of Firsts). This is the oldest, continuously operating airport in the world and their fantastic museum depicts the history of the airfield which has been host to many "firsts" in aviation history. The Wright Brothers flew here, The first controlled helicopter flight occurred here (that helicopter, The 1924 Berliner, is in the museum), etc. This will be the last chance to see the gallery and much of the museum as the windows will be replaced starting next week and the museum won't be back to normal until November or so.

Please stop by and say hello and see the museum. The museum will be open from 10-5 all weekend, trains will run until 5pm Monday. Nominal admission fee applies.

I didn't get a full photo of anything other than the mail car. It was late Friday afternoon and I still had 500 miles of road in front of me to get home. The cars looked streamlined.

All those 21" cars sure look nice together.  The Hi-Level El Capitan is stealing the show, but I love the B & O on the lower tracks.  Great shot.

Chris,  I was not aware of the story behind your layout until reading about it, and you, in the magazine.  I now appreciate your images SOOOOO much more!!!!

While my earlier layouts were nowhere as nice as yours, we did share a common philosophy: let the kids touch it and play with it!  I think that common idea is why I appreciated the writeup about your layout so much more.

Congrats!

All the photos are great!  I just kept clicking Like, Like, Like!

Here are some photos I took this week of a refurbished Pullman Standard PS2 covered hopper which was built in Butler, Pennsylvania in June 1974, the month after I graduated from high school.  It is located in a business park on the site of the razed PS factory.  It has given me inspiration to purchase at least one of the new PS2 cars MTH has in it's 2014 catalog from one of our friendly neighborhood Forum sponsors.

Alex, I have to wholeheartedly agree with you. The appearance, the sounds, and the performance make it one of the best engines I own. I first saw this engine as a sneak preview at the LCCA Convention in Chicago. I had not ordered, but one look at it changed that quickly.

I match it up with a set of Lionel 18" UP Lightweights to emulate the UP excursion train. Beautiful set on the layout.

I wonder why they left it sitting on the ground like that? One section of panel track would have made such an improvement in the presentation, IMHO.  If they used a section with concrete ties, it would be virtually maintenance-free.

Arthur,

I should have taken a closeup photo of where one of the trucks sit.  They have a short piece of track just a bit longer than each truck embedded in and flush with the top of the concrete.  I can tell in the first photo only because I know what I saw.  I agree with you, a whole section of track would have made for a better looking display.  I guess they didn't want to have to spray for weeds.

Alex and Brian, I certainly agree.  It is not just the lines of the locomotive, the UP gray is just super!!

Just back from the Chesterfield County Fair. Beer train part deux. Last week, 14 cars all Atlas and KLine. This week, 21 cars primarily Weaver and MTH Railking. Best estimate there are an additional 24 cars that I have not posted video of, yet. The plan is to put together a consist in December and run all 59 at once. Should be fun.
