I went to horseshoe curve today and the railroaders museum too. Very nice worth the drive! Pictures ...

Awesome pictures. I was there a month ago. I had a very nice time. I wish NS would get the trees and brush cut back on the curve. I somehow stumbled into Cresson after leaving Gallitzin. Cresson has a nice viewing area across the tracks from a fueling facility. Wanted to find the Cassandra crossing but ran out of time and didn't know how to get there from Cresson. Altoona is a nice place to visit. Had an awesome steak at a new place(cant remember the name). I will be going back before winter hits. I am 5 hrs away in NE Ohio. By the way..... I would have thought NS would not be running on the holiday.
So are you going to stay at the Station Inn or the Cassandra motel?
It's not that hard to find Cassandra, but you do need to kind of thread your way through Lilly. Here's the new website for the overlook and motel (and I see he's running winter specials again.)

I need to go back. I was lucky enough to ride both directions through the curve behind 765 last year......GREAT Trip......gotta plan another trip!

"NS would not be running on the holiday" REALLY? Some businesses may have the day off, but certainly NOT the railroads! Christmas day included.

You obviously have not worked in the railroad industry in the last 10 or 15 years. Except for extremely high priority freight, most railroads now try to give their T&E Service employees time off for national holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.
HW,
Great idea, I'm sure the employees and their families appreciate it. However, the Joint Line south of Denver was as busy as ever yesterday. I'll try to remember to post again on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That's nice that they try. But the NS main that I'm close to was running pretty heavy yesterday, AND last Christmas.
My plant was also running yesterday, and NS made the scheduled switch of railcars to our siding.
