Also do these cars have couplers on both ends so they can run mid-train?

K-Line has done blunt end observation cars for the PRR. I also believe GGD did the Congressional with a blunt end as well. Lionel around 2008 also did a Congressional in the 18" size with the blunt end car.
K Line did Blunt end cars for the Phoebe snow in 15 in and 18 in lengths. Lionel is expected to ship shortly 6 cars for the Senator Train in the 18 in size. Thinking these will be the blunt end Observation.
I have the 15" K-Line Lackawanna blunt end. It's not bad looking. What railroad had the Senator?
The Senator was a day train that operated between Boston Massachussetts and Washington DC . It was a joint operation of the Pennsylvania RR and the New Haven RR. In 1952, the Pennsylvania re-equipped the train with Budd Lightweight cars which were purchased in the same order as the Congressional Train sets. The Senator was a poular train in its time, well patronized and had fine services aboard. The train was continued through Penn Central and into the Amtrak era although not near the service level once provided by the PRR and NYNH&H joint operation. In 1952, a Tuscan 5 stripe GG1 would have handled the Senator on the Northeast Corrider while On the New Haven side it could have been F-3s, Pas DL109s from Boston to New Haven and an EP-4 New Haven to Pennsylvania Station. The New Haven power would have been in the Hunter Green with Gold Strip Livery.
K line did a 21" flat end obs for the City of LA. They're hard to find, and go for big bucks any time one does pop up.
I know the reasoning behind the blunt end design, but I have never been a fan of them. Just like with our ladies, curves look much better.
I agree with Brian, but there is just something about a blunt end that is cool. Maybe it's just that you don't see it very often?

Lionel is doing the SP Sunset Limited which always had a blunt end car. If they every arrive we will see if it has the correct tail car! In addition, Phoenix Railways ran both the Sunset Limited and a C&O set with blunt end cars.
