Thanks Mill City....see I knew it was a good idea! LOL!
Have never seen that before.
Was trying to think of the small towns that I have grown up in here in Virginia and they all seem to have: post office, butcher, pharmacy/soda fountain, hardware store, groceries-IGA type store, police/sheriff, fire department, train station, family restaurant, school, sometimes a Laundromat, doctor, and the barbershop/pool hall combo.
I would like some wooden industrial buildings with faded signs like fine scale miniatures.
The items below in the built up format.....
From the N and HO lines:
- Chips Ice House
- Municipal Building
- Home Sweet Home
- Grannys House
- Old Homestead
Please provide painted detailed pieces in loose format for modelers to assemble to scene.
Consider modeling the homes in different colors so we can make a small street scene
Other suggestions:
* Coal yard with ramp for track and at least 2 silos
* Fuel Depot to accomodate a tank car
* Sand House with Dryer
maybe not everything so beat up and antiquated......we can do that!! Thank you!!
I would like to see a better scale size Police station and some buildings in the Old West motiff.
a smallish home from 1920s like the folks could order from the sears catalog.
I'd like to see one of two buildings, First, My Atlas cornswetner cars are lacking a unloading facility. Something with a dock, an office, and the vertical tanks to store the product. Hope it would come with a few undecorated scale tanker trucks.
2nd, using the same vertical tanks withstairs and walks. a facility either for asphalt oil unloading or a warehouse and storage for chlorine.
I also wouldn't mind a brewery(grain hoppers) like the Millers at the interchange of Pasadena I-210 and the 605. but on a smaller scale. maybe like the old olympia brewery.
Phil
Nah. Korber has done that very well already. You want a REALLY REALLY BIG grain elevator.
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'd like to see them continue with the series of small-town style complete buildings. Maybe a bicycle shop, auto mechanic, donut shop or bakery.
Another thought is they could go with a Route 66 theme and model some of the Route 66 survivors.
Wigwam Hotel -- Holbrook, AZ
Or the Route 66 Museum
Or a vintage gas station:
Here's one from yours and Tom "Number 90"'s neck of the woods, Frank.
This one!!
I like both of these, but the top one would be seriously impractical for most people and especially as a pre-built building.
The second one has serious potential as a seller, especially among the NG types. If WS made one of these as a pre-built, I'd buy it for sure!
I buy the top one. What a great brewery it would make.
Great topic!
I'd vote for the Bank and MegaWatts from the HO scale catalog. I could use some more realistic looking more modern urban buildings.

I second that. I'd buy both. Not sure where I'd put them - probably have to displace some existing buildings, but then redevelopment has to come to San Beattadaise eventually anyway . . .
FIRE STATION. either 2 or 3 bay, heck even happy with a one bay that could be kitbashed. Make it an older style brick from the 30's to 50's nothing modern

I suspect that the best possibilities for future releases (pattern seems to be three per year) would be something from the existing Woodland Scenics HO Buildings line.
This is probably exactly right. Since the HO market is larger than O, they'll make new buildings in HO first then make them in O scale. There are several they already make in HO that would be great in O.

An age old question. Which is better? Pat's?
Or Geno's?
Miller Engineering would certainly have their work cut out for them with Geno's. Click on Pictures to see Pat's or Geno's Wikipedia page.
Geno's cholesterol taste better I think. Do not. repeat do not get the wiz!!! Yuck. No Wit the Wiz! Is that the gaudiest building you ever saw? Looks like Vegas.
thanks Jon
John, I have never been to either Pat's or Geno's to sample one of theses gastronomic classics, I would definitely heed your warning and stay clear of the "wit with wiz." Hold the onions with provolone please.
Unlikely either would be produce commercially, but could be a fun scratch build project. Of course, one would need both. Geno's is so over-the-top Tacky, what's not to love?
Yeah, that would be nice!
I would like to see some somewhat modular building shallow flats like Walthers did with the Beverage Distributer/printing press they did a few years ago in O scale. I'd like to see a Mill building and a cast Iron front building.
Some other buildings that would be nice to see are some regional housing that would be common near the tracks. Row Houses and Triple Deckers are common building types that I see from trains but don't see manufactured. I like flats because on my layout the side away from the aisle is never seen and a flat takes up less space. The backs of housing is seen a lot from the tracks but for some reason there are few made.
This is Walthers' REA Transfer Building in HO. Ten years ago Walthers announced they
would not offer it in O gauge/scale. Almost every room size layout could use
at least one transfer building.
John
I seem to recall this building/topic/opine occurred once before.
IMHO, it would be easy to reproduce using Woodland Scenics (Design Preservation) modular walls....
Freight Doors...
and some dock riser pieces to elevate the whole thing to car/truck height...
Make a canopy out of corrugated styrene...JTT Products 97403, 1:48...with some strip styrene supports.
A few other details/thingies, and to me it...
Lucas Gudinov (a.k.a. KD)
Detailed Hobo structures, sheds with details.
How about a 2 or 3 bay fire station dated 30's-50's

CITY BUILDINGS!!!!! Silver Lake posted a good image in his post further up in this thread (last photo in his post) and other similar typical city buildings Are sorely needed. Does anyone in model manufacturing realize just how "absent" true city buildings are from O gauge? What a huge opportunity too. Just peruse this site and see how many people tell you they scratch build city buildings. Not everyone wants to model grass and dirt, or the small town. Seems every manufacturer keeps pumping out small town structures even though there is a glut. City buildings please!
Wow - just think of the smoke unit you would need for that Swafford!
Good morning, I was thinking a small country coal mine.
Most of the mine kits that are available are based on the Anthracite Coal region in North East PA and are quite large. Unfortunately some of us do not have the real-estate for such a large mine.
Just something small that could have a 2 tracks for coal hoppers.
I do like the idea also of a fire house , my town needs one of those also.
The ceramic one I have currently is starting to look out of place as I replace my current buildings with some of the newer buildings that are being offered by MTH, Woodland and OGR.
Whatever Woodland Scenic decides on I am sure it will be great.
Good Day,
Just thinking...............How about a Coal Fired Electric Plant building front? or perhaps a small coal mine building front? Building fronts would take less real estate!
Regards,
Swafford
What buildings would I like to see???? Affordable ones for a change!
Coal Fired Electric Plant..........................All your coalporter hoppers need to have a place to go to!
Regards,
Swafford
I may have missed it, if someone asked for one, but in looking at my layout and what's missing to complete my 1950s town. I would like to see a TV & Radio Appliance store.
Or has one been made? I'm already painting, decaling a van for one.
