Today was too cool and mist/rain so I had time to lay in 72ft of roadbed and 500 3R Plastics rubber ties. This was all on my outer main of Lionel/K Line tubular track, have another 30ft on this main to complete. Need to acquire another big bag/box of 3R Plastics ties. I really like these, they look good, go in easy and stay put with simply securing track to the layout top.

Trying out my new programing track I did yesterday, hopefully make it easier for guests.
Built the shelf that all of my transformer and command equipment will sit on. I may cut about 4" off the top so it sits a little higher and doesn't block my electrical panel as much. Programmed my engines to the legacy remote and tested it all out. Good news, all good so far.

Bryan, good time at the Tuesday night train get together. So I took some pics of the Menard's train station against the MTH station. I was a bit off with how long it was. Hi Lee Biship - I think it is call 28mm camera angle or some photographers, call it key stoning. The young lady's desk is in front of the window and the man is about 10 feet back from the window.
Still a fun project, to make window flats from magazines.

The flats are looking good. I not an expert but the guy looks scale compared to the lady in the window. Obviously a big woman, as in tall. That would account for the large head.

Have you tried scanning the pics and then paste them to a power point slide and the make them smaller or close to scale?

looks pretty good. Maybe you could make smaller ones and build upward biggest on the bottom and smallest on the top for an illusion of distance. Glad there on the layout not in the stomach. Fried Orca or broccoli what was I thinking of. Too bushy for Brussel sprouts.

Like doing a jig saw puzzle & faster. I am a Toy Train Layout, so scale only has to be close........

I got what your saying. I was thinking scan the magazine photo and the paste to power point. But also you could copy an images from the net and do the same thing. Resize and print it out. Either way, what your doing is a great idea.

I pictured he was running warp speed and had spectactular, flying rollover or derailment, loco saved by a foot. Painful, but nothing compared to the pain of a dented or broken loco.

Use Google earth to find the steep side streets that lead to the housing behind(north) and above St Ignace Mi's. downtown buisnesses.(a strip along the water) I know there are similar in Pa., but exactly where????.
Forced perspective is a more familar term in modeling that could be applied to Gary's window cut outs too. Starting with scale for up close to a window and a reduction for folks ment to be on the far side of a room.
I'd have visited the train room long ago, as I beleive you once even invited me by phone during a Craigslist sale inquiry years ago, but I don't get out that way often. Somewhat local, but its still a bit beyond my comfort range for travel unless in a soft riding luxury vehicle.

And to all, "likes" working well has been an on and off thing, for me at least. There are tons of deserving posts I never get to. Even exceptionally deserving ones. You shouldn't let any lack of them hold you back too much IMO.

Thank you very much! This layout is what I call Temporary Railroad. It was my Christmas layout in 2014, then a summer layout in 2015, followed by a makeover to Christmas layout 2015, and now summer layout 2016.
Your comment about the steep street up to The Heights, as many towns in Pennsylvania call it, was in the plan. Helping elderly relatives and our daughter's wedding took priority. I have planned to do a Christmas makeover, then start room prep on our daughter's old art studio which will become the permanent layout room. It measures almost 12 x 12. My wife suggested I leave the train table up in this room our first daughter to marry occupied. She likes adding little holiday related items for whimsy.
I have photos of each iteration of the layout I will collect and post and make sure to let you know to check them out.

I have 5 blank spaces against the wall in my city/warehouse area. Highly detailed flats are not really needed and I can't afford highly detailed ready made flats from Menards, so I framed some boxes with 1 inch pine, added masonite and trim and painted. Need to detail the paint and add windows.

I spent a few hours painting Preiser 65602 Unpainted 24 Seated Figures for my Lionel 21" passenger cars. The Preiser sets are finally back in stock, and I ordered twenty-one sets of twenty-four on Ebay. (504 to paint). I have used them with great success in Atlas O California Zephyr and Amtrak cars too. My Wabash dining car awaits gluing them in place. I added plastic seat backs to my Lionel dining car, painted the plastic strips to match the interior paint, and painted the table tops with flat white acrylic paint. I like the Preiser set of 24 unpainted figures because they can be positioned in realistic conversation groups within the passenger cars. It cost more to use Preiser, but the car they go in wasn't cheap either. I did the best I could, or why bother at all. All my buildings for the layout are lit and detailed with furniture and people too. Now I need to start positioning them on the layout. John
P.S. All the women are wearing blue clothes for the first box I painted. The next box will be pink. the third yellow, the fourth pastel green. The men's suits are light tan, then grey, brown, and finally blue. On the fifth box I might choose another color, or start the rotation over again. Using a small palate of colors speeds up the painting: 1. flesh, 2. tie, 3. shirt, 4. suit, 5. hair, and 6. shoes.
Nothing mind blowing just a little house keeping. I drew a rough map of my track plan and ran an MTH engine in track signal mode. I notate the values and anything lower then an eight gets cleaned.
It really is a fun way to past the time.
Made a long trip (48 miles each way) to Menards after work to pick up some stuff. Train station, engine shed, mountain dew trucks, and some lemax flood lights. everyone was very helpful who worked there as I have never been there before and didn't know where they kept the seasonal stuff.
Besides running trains I wanted to go easy on my bd foot so I sat with a big standard gauge box car, #214,dark orange with a green roof, that I bought at the TCA show, on my kitchen counter. Using pieces of white Bounty paper towel I polished/cleaned the sides of long accumulated dirt with POND'S cold cream. A friend restores old dolls and uses this to clean the antique dolls that are dirty with old fragile paint that can be damaged. It takes time and some rubbing but does get the dirt off. It isn't a cure all and it will never look new but doesn't hurt the paint. the white paper towel is a very mild abrasive and you can see the black dirt on it. Pond's is expensive and I have used a cheaper generic brand, too. I also had a very old O gauge single dome tank car, #2755 that was original with complete decals on it but very dirty. After working on it I can say that I have cleaned it up pretty good and successfully cleaned the decals so you can read them now. I am really impressed with the way the decals have cleaned up with no damage. Will never look new but it is 75 yrs old. Try it see how it works for you.
Steamer - I will wear my NS black RR cap and a brown leather jacket.

I probably DID miss other photos of other's Christmas layouts but this one takes the cake because she was using a small low cost set up to have a great picture like that. I was impressed with her skill and making a small layout really stand out well. I always wanted to do that as well. This photo really touched my heart at that moment, I think it just the timing I guess.

Paul, your right is was a good night but it was almost a better night. When I had the lady look up what I was going to buy to tell me what aisle to go to she said it even looks like you get a free truck with this. She took me over to the area and found the buildings but couldn't find the free truck so I asked if I could substitute the Mountain Dew trucks (9.99 each) for the 14.99 box trucks. She said she would have to ask the manager but he said the free truck was only if you ordered online and had it shipped to the store. If you came into the store and purchased directly no free truck. I guess this is explained on another page and not on the page when you look up the building directly. No big deal but from now on I guess I order the stuff and have it sent to the store when they are offering free stuff.
As for tonight if you want to ride over with me be at my house at 5:30 as I have to go to Tony's house first to show him how to wire his DCS system that he bought at York, then we can go to Charlies. If that is too early send me an email and I can give you Charlies address.
