Received the last pieces of track I needed from RCS today so I cleaned & painted them this afternoon. My local Hobby Lobby did not have a rust color so I used Battleship Gray and it looks like rail I have seen - so that works !  Plan on laying some track this weekend (after the OKC Train Show).

Try Dupli-color Hot Rod Primer.......a dark muddy gray.....I like it!!!

Another great color for weathered track is Rust-Oleum Camouflage paint - #1918 Earth Brown.   I used this on my layout as it was recommended by Dennis Brennan.

A blank 10x20 space in the garage... I have no idea where to begin.

Well, Tom, if you had left the shelves up, you could have built an interesting switch-back railroad!!!

But seriously, two things jump out at me: is access to that door at the end of the space critical and is that lightbulb the sole source of light in the space??? Moving right along, do you have a design in mind - around the room, point to point, center island??? Then, what size curves are you planning on using??? Are you planning on building your own bench work or purchasing a system??? I think answering those questions would be a good starting point.

Mike, you got a winner with that one. The building doesn't have to grow on me it looks good. That truck dump gives you a few options as to what type of industry it would dump at. Tom, Mike and Apples55 are right. Take your time figuring out what you want for a layout. Don't rush. I got my plastering just about done. I didn't have enough to finish a small section and I did not want to make up another batch till I have more to plaster. I'll let it dry over night and sometime tomorrow start adding colors. Nice looking work there Paul! Thanks for your vote of support, I really like the dump ramp, just think I might have made the building to big, its 10" x 10" x 18 tall. Not sure if that is scale or not but that's what I came up with!

Paul can you do me a favor and explain what method you use to put the plaster on?  It looks great!

Ran my new BL-2 a bit last night. I say a bit because it doesn't fit on 027 curves . The overhang on the steps and rails hit the indicators on my 5121 switches and some signals.

Guess its going under the tree this year on my fastrack with 036 curves. Still a nice looking engine though.

Must....build....a....bigger.... layout.......

That's a bummer it hits the indicators and signals.  It will be great under the tree, but I hope you can find the space for 036 curves on the layout!!

Mike, I don't think the building is too big. Scale wise it is 40' X 40' X 72' high. Mike, first after I have the foam board the way I want it I apply plaster wrap to the whole thing. Once that dries I make up my Gypsolite, my choice there are other plasters to use but I like this stuff. It is on the porous side so it accepts coloring very well. I mix  one cup water to two cups plaster. I have been using a rubber kitchen spatula to apply the plaster and work it into the plaster wrap in different directions. That' about it...............Paul

I thought I was done with leaves for the year but Mother Nature brought in the wind and other people's leaves so once again I had to rake. I think I can say I have seen the last of leaves till next year. With that out of the way I started applying plaster to the mountains. The separate piece is done and the permanent mountain is about half done. Talked the wife into watching her Cavs instead of taping it for later so that should give me the evening to finish the mountain. I am keeping my fingers crossed I have enough plaster to do the job. While I was doing the mountains my trees from scenic for the mountain came today. Pics..............Paul

Track lighting FTW.

Mike G looks super. This is what the hobby needs more people building things that they want for their layout less just taking it out of a box.

Thanks! That mean a lot coming from you guys! If I wasn't on a fixed income I would probably buy more from fine companies like yours!

Well, didn't do all this in one day but here's some recent work.  First up, the mountain range is largely completed.

20171201_11065420171201_110713

Added a cobblestone parking area to the train station.

20171201_110951

Started work on the lumber yard work area.

20171201_111037

Got my very first train engine working again.  Still sparks a little so more cleaning needed.

20171201_110837

Maybe this weekend I'll figure out how to upgrade my ZW control handles!

On the next layout Mark. Since this is my first build in many years I plan on using this as a learning exercise for the future. I grew up modeling in HO so getting used to the size difference has been a challenge at times (sound familiar?). I can run it on my elevated loop so it will see some time on the layout.

just need to negotiate for more space with the CEO now.
