Thanks Mark. I remember as a kid seeing lots of old buildings with painted foundations and stoops (a NY term for steps, ever play stoop ball? ) I might tone the white down a little.

Since the building is at the end of the siding, the stock loading dock didn't reach the car door so I made a longer one. The stain is Minwax Early American.

Here we call a small porch just big enough to stand on to open the door a stoop, whether there are steps or not.  Our stoop is about 5x6, about 4 inches higher than the sidewalk with no steps leading up to it.  Interesting how words describe different things.

Today after opening  package left on my doorstep, it was my set of reefers from the Canadian club I went back to working on the layout. After pulling out the nails I got out the paint and painted the roadbed.  Still have two areas to finish off. I have a switch on order for the silo area. this will give me two small sidings for gran cars. At the other end I am not quite sure what I want to do with the siding for the plastic or flour mill yet. Pics..............Paul 2

So sheltering in place on the Northport New York division. Have been in the layout rooms for an hour or two since the stay home advisory went into effect . Focusing on cleaning and sprucing up the layout, getting rid of dust bunnies and repairing buildings structures and whatever.

So today decided to take a few minutes to run a couple of trains. There is a section on the layout where there is a three track main with a depot serving both levels of the layout. So in spite of the stay at home orders , the railroad is still operating passenger and freight service. In the photos we see the afternoon local arriving on the track near the wall. This train is still steam powered with a lionel 6442-43 set powered be a Lionel 675. Before the run, the loco received a drop of oil on the motor armature bearing ends for smooth operation. . Smokes and has a nice strong air whistle. The set dates to 1949.

The middle track has a Freight heading through with a Lionel Lackawanna FM at the point , circa 1954. It has a consist of about a doaxen modern scale cars from Lionel, MTH and Atlas in tow.

In the station on the outer track we have a 2 car IND R-1 subway special from MTH. There was some talk of running a transit rail trip but its on hold for now.

So tomorrow, some more Cleanup and maintenance. In view of the Virus guidelenes, this is probably a good time to do this. Finding a few parts and screws along the right -of-way. I wonder where they came from?

Happy to report that my decision, reluctantly made, to fill in the roof line grooves on the third LIONEL 15" former UP offset vista dome went SMOOTHLY--a first for me.  I didn't even use the new tube of putty I'd purchased in anticipation of running out of what I had on hand.  Now, on to painting.

Thanks Paul. I borrow....(umm...stole) your loading dock post idea . Yea I hope to be accepting deliveries soon.

LIRR- Nice collection of classics. If your pike is too full you could send the overflow to the Central Extension in Garden City. I'll walk over to pick them up .

Ray- The Hotel looks great. Very nice work!

Carl- Nice job on the cars.

Thanks Don. The cars are difficult to find as Lionel produced this number series only for 1949. I searched for a while as well. The Engine is 1949 production so the cars are just the thing for the set. They do turn up periodically.

Loving that Vallet supply building. I would ask you where you found the Black and white Building sign.? I have some buildings I would like to treat similarity. Its very steam era.

Today I have been working on track. Slow going because I want to measure three times and cut once LOL. After some lunch the first thing I have to do before I start again is figure out what I did with my screw drivers for the Gar Graves screws. Now I am just able to get the screws started. I have been running my 2026 & tender pulling 4 passenger cars during the past few days.  (One of the passenger cars is Lionel 6-16046.  The others are very similar to that one.)  This had not been done before.  The first thing encountered was the 2026 front pilots wheels often derailing on switches.  This was not new.  I had ordered a replacement pilot wheel assembly 4 years ago, but had not installed it.  I installed it a few days ago.  Knock wood, derailments are gone.  Next, the passenger cars were intermittently shorting power when passing over 2 of 7 switches in the 2 main loops of the layout.  The short circuiting either momentarily paused the train, or stopped it, depending on how fast the train was moving when it entered the switch.   (I am using CW-80.)  Both switches are 1122(E).  I had applied black nail polish to the swivel rail on both a few years ago, but not to the side of the frog rail where a wheel may create a short circuit to the frog rail.  I redid the nail polish on the swivel rail on both, and did the frog rail on both.   See the photo.  Knock wood, the shorting is gone for now.

(I learned of the nail polish trick from this forum a while ago.  Thanks to whomever posted about it.)

I had fun. I’ve wired several switches with the non-derailing  feature. And I began ballasting the Gargraves and Ross track. Learned a lesson the hard way.... be sure to clean the ballast off the ties and between the rails. In other words be careful of the job you’re doing. I got some small ballast in between the switch guard rail and the rails. Nearly caused a problem. All turned out well in the end. The video was made for my friend Randy. It’s shot in an area of the layout still under construction. Progress is coming along nicely.
