Tom, being from across the pond I would say it is about protectionism, I may be wrong here.

My theory is that OGR and many other US forums like to keep members compartmentalised and not promote other likeminded forums for fear of losing customers. We have different views this side of the pond, the more you promote the hobby the more people you get interested in it, we are not so hung up on it like you guys are.

i guess also other members are being inconspicuous in replying as to the consequences of doing so.

i suspect this thread will disappear as well and I will get an email from Alan about it.

That's an interesting point.  Coming form a different angle, I was concerned they like to keep S content down.  After all, this is a 0 gauge forum.  You want to talk S, then go to an S site.

I have never heard from OGF when a thread has been deleted.  I had a do you want some AF track thread and they took it down without a word.  I've since learned OGF has an area to post for sale items, so maybe that's what happened to my track post.  BOTOH, I have seen OGF move threads to a more appropriate topic area.  So I still have no idea why either of the threads were deleted.  And if they don't tell us why, how can we learn what they allow and what they don't???

Guys read the posting rules. If you post something that violates the rules, its taken down, no notices given. Happened to me several times for various reasons.

While I find the  forum hard to navigate, this forum covers all kinds of scales and gauges, You just have to find the right post. There is a separate S-gauge area.  ogr forum directory

I do not agree with the "protectionist" comment. I would love to hear specific examples of such actions. Regardless I have only seen posts promoting the hobby and providing helpful content. All you have to do is a Google search on a model railroading topic and see how many references come from this forum. I participate in a number of forums, this is my go to forum by far.

Tom,

You need to be very careful with your acronyms.  This forum is referred to as the OGR Forum; there is a separate forum that uses OGF as its designation.

Chuck

Chuck, you are quite correct.  I think I've been using the wrong acronym forever.  I will use OGR forum from now on, thank you.  I looked at the header and perhaps OGROF would be more correct?

OGR is also my preferred forum.  I really like that threads are divided into topics... I find it very decent for doing searches.  That's why I support it.

Now to find the posting rules...

"ScoutingDad"...thanks so much for this comment.  So many times disgruntled folks paint a picture of OGR and me in particular as the bad guy when posts are deleted, edited, moved, changed, etc. when in fact we are doing what we think is best per our TOS and for the purpose of trying to keep the forum as positive as possible.  This thread in particular should be deleted because in our TOS (which too many don't read) says threads like this will be deleted.  In this case, I will just close it.  Frankly, a couple of the comments are sort of out of line and just so you know, we don't really take into account how "it is done across the pond".  When you come over to this side of the pond, you play by our rules.
