"Silver Bells" is my number one..I like them all.
Oh Come All Ye Faithful by Nat King Cole...awesome!
Blue Christmas by the King of Rock n Roll! Second is White Christmas by Bing.
In my younger years, I was going to school in Europe for my Master's in Music Performance.
Christmas music has an entirely different meaning there as it is more devotional than popular. I recall taking the train from Antwerp to Amsterdam, watching the lights go by at night, the fellow travellers bundled with their packages. One punk rocker, spiked hair and all had his boom box playing....
Es Ist Ein Ros Entsprungen i.e. Lo, How a Rose e're Bloometh.
It was quiet, no one spoke, no one complained, everyone just listened.
I'll never forget that.

Bing - White Christmas
Nat - Christmas Song
Burl - Have a holly jolly christmas
Brenda Lee - Rockin around the Christmas tree
Have yourself a merry little christmas - any of the Sinatra, Bing, Como, versions....
and then some nostalgia with the Herb Alpert Christmas Album
and finish with some fun with "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas".....

I agree with ratpak, Dino with White Christmas. On the lighter side of this great Topic, Porky Pig, and I Will have A Blue Christmas Without You.

"White Christmas" by Bing.
"The Christmas Song" as done by Nat King Cole is a very close second.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves especially on this forum!
I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD!
I know it's not a Christmas song, but really, isn't Christmas, a Christmas tree, a loop of track, and really big smiles on all of the kids, big and small, isn't that a good tie in!

I'll second Mario on the Messiah. Don't believe I've ever heard a bad version of that. Vying for first place also has to be White Christmas sung by Bing.

ELVIS Blue Christmas
Jingle Bell Rock, Bobby Helms
On a related note, if you're ever in the mood for something exploring the humorous side or offbeat part of Christmas music, the CD "Bummed Out Christmas" is a lot of fun. Worth it for "Christmas in Jail" and "Santa Got a DWI" alone!!

Merry Christmas Darling by The Carpenters, White Christmas By Bing Crosby, and Silent Night. For a very nice rendition of White Christmas check it out as sung by Karen Carpenter, what a voice.
Fun topic.

Here's a little ditty that always gave me a laugh:
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heal.
You're as cuddly as a cactus.
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Gri-inch!
You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel!"
Then there was "The Night Santa Went Crazy" by Weird Al Yankovich. Was fun for a while until some guy in So. Cal. decided to do it for real to his ex-wife a few years ago.

1. "OH Holy Night"-Josh Grobin version.
2. "White Christmas"-Bing Crosby
3. "Christmas Song"-Nat King Cole

Used to see him LIVE at the Brooklyn Paramount Alan Freed Rock 'N' Roll shows.
The song "One More Train".I don't know the artist, but it was featured in one of the great TM Lionel Christmas videos from a few, maybe more than a few, years back.

When I was a boy, each year my mother filled the house with Johnny Mathis Christmas songs. She really enjoyed him .... I remember it becoming annoying as I grew older. Lol.
Now ... so many decades later ... hearing any Christmas song sung by Mathis brings such warm memories and feelings.

Another favorite of mine, and especially appropriate for the majority of participants on this forum.
I believe it is a James Coffey original. He did much of the music for the various TM videos.
I was just listening to my Gene Autry Christmas album.
That is the BEST!, but mainly for those of us around in the early 50's.

For me, a two-way tie between 'The Christmas Song' sung by the late great
Nat King Cole, and 'Sleigh Ride' performed by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston
Pops. Both still bring me goose bumps, even now.

Oops, sorry - THREE-way tie, I also love the Ave Maria performed some years ago by
Luciano Pavarotti.

The Pogues and Kirsty Mccoll...terrific British-Irish song...second to none.
I too cannot choose, so many, and many bring a tear to the eye these days.
So many have passed on, and all we have is the memory.
PS I too, have found TSO to be good stuff, Playing it now.
Saw them in concert about 3 weeks ago. WOW!

Im going to see TSO finally on the 22nd of this month. Been waiting about 5 years for them to be around on a date that I could make it on.
Id like to add Kenny Rodgers' Kentucky Homeade Christmas as another great original song I remember from being a kid. (To most of you I'm still probably a kid..lol)
Has anyone here heard David Foster's "The Christams Album"? Its a little more modern take on some classic Christams music. The arrangements are fantastic imo.
Mel Torme's "Christmas Song" (he wrote the MUSIC and some of the lyrics), sung by the inimitable Nat King Cole.
Second would be Bing's "White Christmas".
Both are definitive versions of each song.
NOTE: according to BMI, the "Christmas Song" is the MOST played Christmas song!

The link you posted is definitely to the WRONG "One More Train" song! Not even close, except in name.
The James Coffey "One More Train" tune is something just about EVERY member of this forum could relate to. It's not really a Christmas-specific tune, but is more of a national anthem for toy train nuts.
Here's a link that should work:

I had a Gene Autry "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" album when I was a kid. I think I wore it out.
As I go through this thread, my list keeps changing! Whoever said they can't pick just one really nailed it!

Another excellent version of this was done by Joan Baez in German.

Our holliday season now starts with a TSO show.
Enjoy the show worth the wait. If you are going to the night show they usually have a meet and greet after. let us know what you think of the live show.
