What a sentimental lot you are stateside, best Christmas song ever in my humble Scots opinion Shane McGowan and Kirsty McColl "Fairy Tale of New York", great tune great lyrics ha ha DAVY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwHyuraau4Q

I love listening to Red Neck Christmas Songs when I'm crawlin around on the roof puttin up decorations.
My favorite is "Buon Natale" by Nat King Cole, because my name is Natale and I was born on Christmas. When my dad got married he promised my grandfather Natale that he would name his first-born son after him. I was born 8 years later, on Christmas.
I also had an uncle Natale and a cousin Natale. All four Natales were often in the same room together at family get-togethers. To avoid confusion my Uncle Natale was referred to as "Big Nat" my cousin Natale was called "little Nat", my grandfather was "Big Natale" and I was called "little Natale."
Anything that Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole sings puts me in the spirit. I don't care for cjristmas songs with the country twist.

This is a test, right? Has to be "A Lionel Christmas" from the TM Video of the same name!!
Bah Humbug. I am already sick of the mass marketing of the season. I wonder what Mr. dickens would say about all this if he was alive today?
Bing Crosby "White Christmas." I love both the song and the movie, even if they are riding the Santa Fe to Vermont!
However, it just doesn't feel like Christmas until I hear the Vince Guaraldi Trio's soundtrack to "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Nothing like Linus reciting Luke's Gospel to get you in the Christmas spirit!
I cannot begin to pick a favorite. Way too many great songs done by so many talented artists over the years. However, I love to "start" my christmas with this one, it just get's me in the mood.

Please give it a listen
I have XM radio in my car now. I've been listening to a holiday traditions station on the drive into work, They play a lot of Glenn Miller/ big band holiday music.
Just thinking of what "I'll be home for Christmas" meant back in the early 40's.. I think I may have a new favorite song or at least appreciation for what they did.

Modern - "I don't want a lot for Christmas"... I like the beat and the bass part.
Traditional - (for meaning and spirituality) "Joy to the World"

"Wow look at those tracks.....and look at that engine, they didn't make them like that when I was a kid."

Lionelbob,
It may not be my favorite Christmas song (actually, it would be hard to pick a single song) but I sing this song to my wife every Christmas. Her first Christmas gift to me, many years ago, was a set of trains! Great choice.

I love this post.

He would be 200 years old. He'd probably say, ehhhhhh.....wheeeeze...ehhhhhh...wheeeeze
