When did proto 2 go 3V?

Hi marty, I think the 3V DCS system is only about four years old. Something made in 2005 is probably the 9v system.

You could just remove the body from the tender and check out the battery, but it may say on the plate on the bottom of the train.

Actually most anything "cataloged" in 2004 on up was 3 volt. Just go to the MTH website and click on their product locator. Enter the product number (20-3xxx-1), click on manual icon and then find the battery in maintenance.

Can you check it by just looking at the battery charging port? Round is nine volt and square is three volt?

Very good point Clem. If there is no battery charge port at all then it's also safe to assume it's 9v. That is because the charging port came out before the end of the 9 volt systems.
