Whenever I look for the date the 50’ version of the PS-1 boxcar was first made, I get info on when the 40’ was introduced but no date for the 50’. Did they both come out at the same time?

I am in on this too. Good question!
The date is between 1946 and 1956.

The exact could be narrowed down if someone can find rosters of freight cars built for railroads that existed between 1946 and 1950.

The 1947 date is always associated with th 40' car. I have seen only a couple of refences that the 50' came later, but how much later? Andrew, since I have not seen any other date for the 50 footer, it does look like it came out the same year as the 40'. Thanks.
Ron, if you go to the website " STEAM ERA FREIGHT CARS ". click on Prototype, click on Freight Car Prototypes. Your see a list of Pullman Standard PS-1 50' Box cars you can download. The list doesn't say it is or isn't complete.
It looks like 1954 is the earliest date.

Russ,
Thank you for the link. I did a search on the spreadsheet and the the GTW bought 200 in December 1948, then the next was the USN in 1952 then a couple roads in 1953. After that, the buying really increased.
What I really wanted to know is when the PRR started buying, and according to the data they never bought any. This makes sense since the PRR only bought 40 PS-1 cars. Guess they liked to make/upgrade their own.
For my late 40s layout, it looks like I can use as delivered GTW cars.
Have there ever been any mass produced Atlas O Master Series or M.T.H. Premier PS-1 50' box cars in the 1948 Grand Trunk Western paint scheme?

No idea. First I need to find out what the as delivered scheme looked like, then do a search to see if anyone did it. Fun
