I have a Lionmaster T-1 duplex#5514 6-38020 from 2003 that has the original odyssey, which I would like to upgrade it with Cruise M. Happen have spare boards from another project for the generic Cruise M board and Odyssey diesel Cruise M board. On most steam engines the website recommends the generic board, but since this is not a standard steam because of the two motors (like most diesels), would I be better served to use the diesel odyssey board instead? Also, Does it really matter which board I use?

The main difference as I understand the 2 board types to be is what the digital outputs do.
Example, the "Odyssey diesel Cruise M board" in theory outputs a pulse for duty cycle/speed - often use by railsounds to ramp up and slow down the prime mover sounds, and the LED light outputs would be alternating ditch lights.
Again, PIN2 in the connector J4 has a different function specific to use in many diesel engines.
The generic version of the board duplicates- but can add indications to the serial data stream back to railsounds instead of the duty cycle output. http://www.3rdrail.com/err-3rd...seM-Inst%20Feb20.pdf
Generic Installation Information
The Cruise Commander MTM (CCM) system is designed for operation in engines with
modular factory TMCC with minimal modification to the engine wiring. The CCM will also
be a great choice for engines that have K-Line cruise, or Odyssey™ cruise systems. This
includes steam, electric and diesel engines

In other words- probably use the generic in the T-1 and leave the Diesel one for the day you need that duty cycle output.
Thank you for the detailed response and explanation of the differences between them.
