I thought this would be the best place in the forum to ask this.I cannot find any information on the sizes of the steam locomotives rostered by the class 1 railroads by decade.1900 through 1960.I'm pretty sure the mighty Pennsy had the largest amount.Wondering where the other class 1 RR's fell in order.

 

I know the MOPAC rostered 1,150 steam locos in 1942-43.

The Penn had the most at any one time, at least up til the early '50s.

I mean thousands of 'em... and some classes of 400 to 600 or more of

basically the same thing!   Massive standardization helped to some

degree to keep this monster under control. Most of these things were

majorly obsolete by 1950, so the introduction of the GEEP was just about

perfect.  They became the world's biggest Dieselovers, with a few of

everything ever built - including uniques like the A6b.
