Hello,

I decided to build up 3 sets of 2-Rail Brass Adirondack  6-Wheel Trucks for GE U-28C, U-30C, U-33C and U-36C Diesel Locomotives. I bought this mixed set of Brass parts off eBay about 2 years ago and decided I want to complete these assemblies during Winter.

However, I can't seem to find the name of the OEM manufacturer after searching the Internet because I need an additional Bolster and qty 4 Hi-Adhesion Shocks with the mounting support.  The only Brass OEMs that I can recall who made O-Scale 2-Rail Brass GE Locomotives that may have used these parts are Locomotive Workshop, Ajin, and Dae-Woo

Here are pics of what I have and OEM info that I'm looking for...

Regards, Steve

Hi Steve

Those are Gilmaur castings from the initial kit, the U33Cs.  Mike Calvert, who died last year, and I split responsibilities here in England, he carried on with the fun of kits and I fell down the black hole of importing American O-scale for RR-educated Englishmen.

I'm charged with clearing Mike's estate and I've come across some components of the Adirondack trucks.  I now have your incentive to help me go quicker!  I'll update you ASAP.

Jason

Thanks Jason,

I'm sorry to hear that Mike Calvert passed away 1 year ago... I always thought that Gilmaur Brass Kits were made with very high detail, skill, and quality craftsmanship.

I was was also not aware that I had purchased 3 sets of Gilmaur GE 6-wheel Adirondack trucks.  I appreciate your letting me know Mike had made these Brass Trucks.

I last emailed Mike 5+ years ago about all-Brass O-scale 2-Rail Alco AAR Type A Trucks and Alco Blount Trucks.  However, I always wondered if Mike ever recieved my email reply because of email problems with his Internet ISP at that time BTInternet.com.

Anyway, please check and let us know if you may have for sale any spare Gilmaur Kits or parts for Diesel Locomotives from Mike's old stock or your Binn Road company.

I need an additional single brass Bolster for this O-Scale 2-Rail Brass Adirondack sideframes and also qty 2 Adirondack Brake Cylinders with qty 2 Hi-Ad Shock Absorbers. I am also still interested in the all-Brass AAR Type A and Blount Trucks Kits for Switchers.

Thanks for the reply, PRRHorseshoeCurve,

However, I want to try to keep the same matched original parts, where Jason may have the parts I need since he and Mike Calvert ran & operated Binns Road/Gilmaur that made these parts.

I own several PSC Diesel parts catalogs and they do not show what I need.  Besides, many of the older PSC Brass parts casting molds were lost years ago when PSC experienced a building fire.

IMHO and based upon my past attempts, Des Plains is inconsistent on parts that are available which they may or may carry in their store.

My next choice would be P&D Hobbies (Pat Mucci), but he died last year and I am not yet sure if his son has has indexed all of the inventory or has all of the hobby contacts that Pat had.  When I looked at P&D Hobbies O-Scale Detail Parts webpage, I cannot see pics of the parts they now offer and it seems the listing of parts available for sale has declined.

American Scale Models (Bill Davis) tends to sell Overland Brass products and parts, but I am unaware they have ever stocked  brass Air Cylinders for GE 6-Wheel Trucks and none of the trpe I need appear on his website or eBay store.

Wiseman Models (Keith Wiseman) may be able to duplicate the Brass Air Cylinders, etc. by re-casting them in White Metal, but this would likely be an expensive option for the few parts I need.

Central Locomotive Works/Kemtron (Lou Houlemarde) may be my next contact if Jason is unable to help me with his remaining parts list...

Finally, I have a low-end 3D Printer, Thermolyne 2100 deg F furnace and a lot of 220 Brass where I am interested in making and casting my own parts. However I am still a Rookie in learning mode trying to figure out the best way to make sand molds with consistent yields of highly detailed brass parts with Sprues.

These are all reasons why I admire the work completed by Mike Calvert and I prefer to see what Jason has available for an exact parts match instead of my "trying to reinvent the wheel".

Sorry Steve, not concentrating: I do have the brass brake cylinders.  The rest of the Gilmaur trucks are mostly whitemetal castings.  We were satisfied with the robustness, fine detail and price from whitemetal here in the UK.  I haven't sorted truck inventories out yet and there have been detail changes, but AAR Type-A and Blunt trucks from the S-series diesel switchers might be complete.  There are FB-2 trucks Mike had planned for the U18B kit.  There are some short hood etchings for these and, of course, regular cab etchings and castings, but I haven't seen any frames yet.

Jason

Hi Jason and thanks for the reply,

I'm not sure your pic upload made its way through this CrowdStackPro webpage on the OGR Forum.

I do not see any pic nor any link that you sent to me regarding the Adirondack Trucks.  Could you please re-send?

Also, I don't seem to have your PM address to reply/recieve msgs or pics offline...  I am also interested in the Alco S2/S4 white metal Blunt/AAR Type A that you briefly mentioned. Please contact me,  I'm at sneago atyahoodtcom

Regards, Steve
