Going well Nev, but not much done on the train side over winter. Been fairly mild this year with only one tap freezing one morning but I am getting soft and like my warmth these days. First on the bucket list when I win Lotto is to buy a winter residence ( perhaps in Perth).

While you don't give me a name I can answer to I like the mini house scene, well done!

Phill,

Know what you're saying 100%. The time issue, sorry to say, makes the ready made kits in HO that much more tempting to stay there.

I think "mock ups" will be a great help until,if ever, time comes around for building, that's my plan anyway.

We have seen a trend over the last 25plus years of the offerings by manufacturers of really well executed ready to run locos and cars, and now ready to place structures. My hope is it attracts lots and lots of new model railroaders to the hobby. The big advantage to growth "hobbies" like video gaming is the relatively short learning curve, and the instant gratification it offers.

Attention spans are a lot shorter today, and we live in an increasingly media driven environment with lots of distractions. Young people especially are much less interested in the kinds of hands on recreational options we were attracted to.

It just is what it is...

I kitbash a great deal; largely because I pick out subjects that there are no kits of; such as the 1913 Niles Combine(Interurban/Trolley) that I am working on now. I also recently made a Substation from DPM parts. The Niles Car started with a Labelle Kit and would be almost unrecognizable to the people from LaBelle. It is my first attempt with a wood kit...and contains parts from multiple manufacturers.
