I notice that Williams has the Burlington GP30 item #22905 with True Blast Plus. Saw the Great Northern version at a show this weekend on a layout and talked to the owner. The detail and paint was very sharp and it looked great.

The owner said he was disappointed with the sound. It seams that the speaker is mounted sideways up against the side of the body. Very hard to hear the prime mover as the engine accelerates. The horn and bell were good, but not great. He doesn't know why the speaker was not mounted in the fuel tank with speaker holes like everyone else does.

Since he had it for a only a few weeks, he has yet to dig into it to see what can be done to improve the overall sound and either move or replace the speaker.

I would be interested if what others think of the sound system. If anyone has relocated the speaker. These look very good, nice crisp paint, but I would like to see, I mean hear, better sound. There is no pot to adjust the sound on this engine.

I have the GN GP30 and yes it dose look good. A couple of issues is the orange is a darker shade from my MTH GN SD9/SD24 and Williams FA1 and the front(Cab end) classification lights are red

It didn't make any since to me either as when you remove the weight there is room, but not with the speaker it came with.  My case the prime move sound could be heard two rooms away. Revs also did not match with the speed of the engine. They should of added a volume control knob. When I rewired the motors in series, I disconnected the sound board.

Eventually I will install a volume control switch and replace and relocate the speaker into the fuel tank. Also change the classification lights at the cab end from red to white

Yes, unfortunately, the shade of paint Williams uses is quite a bit off the correct Great Northern Omaha Orange. Too dark, too much red. Here's a shot of the correct shade from a photo of a current operating engine and a passenger car, courtesy of the Great Northern Historical Society web site.

Still a good engine if the operator doesn't care about color fidelity.
