I’m in the market for a Williams T-1 4-4-4-4. But I’m trying to figure out the Gear ratio they have used. (Flywheel rotations for one full wheel rotation). Anyone got a Williams Loco or know what any idea of the Gear ratio(s) commonly used. I’ve never had any Williams locos so I have no idea.

A bunch of their brass has a very high gear ratio, 1:44.  I don't know about the Williams T-1 Duplex.  Believe it or not, buried somewhere in my pile of future upgrades is the Williams T-1 Duplex, but it's under a LOT of other stuff!

Well! 1:44 is pretty slow. If you ever get to that pile id be interested to know for sure. Possibly for a future upgrade

Thanks John!

Bruk the lowest-geared Lionel that I know of is the Legacy B6, at 30:1.  The B6 has small driving wheels.  If its wheels match the prototype at 56 scale inches, the distance traveled per motor revolution might approach that of a Williams T1, assuming it's geared at 44:1 with prototypical 80" drivers.

Disclaimer: I don't know the ACTUAL wheel diameters, or the actual ratio of the T1.

That is possible. I clocked my Legacy B6 as 28:1. I had the same theory when I did my Class A. I originally installed a RCMC from a PS4 pacific thinking since the driver size was close to the Class A. Ended up being 3 chuffs rev instead of 4. I matched the gear ratio to the AC-12 (which has smaller drivers). The Class A and the AC12 have 16:1. This fixed my lack of 4 chuffs. I found that interesting and but also not surprised. I do not know what ratio for the Pacific’s are the Scale Lionel T1 also had 16:1 so ill be testing another 16:1 board to see if thats consistent.

I have found that the Williams/Weaver Samhongsa brass is fairly well-geared. Certainly nothing like their awful die-cast steam gearing (the 4-6-0 is a notable exception). I have upgraded a few, some w/o cruise (old TA Studios boards) and some with.

I do think that even lower would have been better, but....
