I have an A.C.L. MTH part number MT 2139...... vintage 1996 .......EMD GP20.... in "almost new condition".....that won't come out of hibernation. I am in the process of converting all of my PS 1 and PS2 engines over to BCR, and have almost all of them done. This engine is a PS 1...AKA Original Proto Sound. I have installed a good, well charged (Green) MTH battery, while trying to "revive" this engine. This engine has been stored for 15+ years....(in a climate controlled environment -- indoors at home) I was advised when I stored this engine many years ago, to remove the battery for storage, which I did. I have an MTH Z4000 transformer and have tried the reset # 18 feature, with no success. I have tried the MTH "Original Proto-Sound reset kit" (which I have) and with no results.....it just stubbornly sits there in "re-set" mode with the lights on, and an "idle" sound. I have brought to life many Proto Sound engines....PS1 and PS 2, but this engine is stuck in "re-set" mode, and won't respond!. What "voodoo" am I missing here?!

I believe this guy has a site with tips on these?
I couldn't find them yet....
you have the manual?
here's an old one

Whenever ProtoSounds enters RESET after power has been off for more than 15 seconds, the microprocessor initiates a system check to determine that everything is in working order. This system check requires 2.2 seconds to complete during which time the engine will play the diesel startup sounds. We recommend that you don’t interrupt the power in RESET until the diesel startup sounds have completed. This will guarantee that the system check will have been completed since the startup sounds take longer than 2.2 seconds to play. If the problem persists, we recommend that you operate the throttle with a slower movement as you interrupt the power in RESET and enter the Forward Phase
sounds like you know all this?
Well, I have the same problem.....I just purchased a NIB RailKing Gas Turbine w/Protosound 1.....seems stuck in reset and/or neutral? I have installed a new BCR.
I am going to my club later today for test track session #3 on this locomotive ( following the instructions carefully) to see if I can get any train movement.......
If I fail again, I suppose a "new Board" .......or?
P.S....Had I searched this forum and others in advance of the purchase, I would have seen and read the several threads on this problem. I do not blame the seller as he had no way of knowing, I chalk it up to experience = Wisdom!
Those GP20s have the deselect chip in them. You need to get a new chip from MTH.
