I heard from an online retailer that this building will soon be available for distribution.

The Woodland Scenics website had been showing an image (for the 1:48 building) that I believe was the HO version of the same gas station. It has a large base under the canopy.

Woodland Scenics has updated their website showing several views of the 1:48 building and an actual packaged building so I believe them to be available fairly soon. Note there is no base under the canopy.

See the webpage for additional views.

I have one ordered from my LHS.  It will arrive when it arrives - they always do, so I will just wait.

I have no idea where it will go on the layout but I will squeeze it in somewhere as I have the door factory and department store recently added.  As to no base under the awning, perfect, as I will no doubt want to bash and fit it to the layout, not the other way around.

Thanks for the picture Lima!  It does appear they changed the face or gable area of the awning, to the clapboard or siding look...this from an email to WS:

"Thank you for your interest in our products. The photo you currently see on our website of the O Scale Ethyl’s Gas & Service, Item BR5849 is an accurate depiction of the structure. Design changes to the front open-beam overhang were made as it exposed the lighting which was felt to be an unrealistic feature. The underside of the overhang is still open beam, just not the front area. Late updates to the website photos was an oversight on our part and we apologize for that."

Mike CT, thanks for clearing up the question on WS pictures .  Here is another picture (I hope) from another website, of the previously pictured or previewed version (likely the HO model as Banjoflyer stated)...

I'm not considering sending mine back because of this change, but it is still a little disappointing.  As WS mentioned it will still be an open-beam look on the rest of the overhang, but I wonder if you'll ever really see it unless the building sits up high.  Maybe I can reverse the design change

It is still a very nice piece.

One thing to consider is the high detail of these models and how fragile they are.  Packed in bubble display packs, there can be issue with transportation.  I was at Mercer Junction Train Shop yesterday and noted the General Store, with it's in progress addition had some issues to be corrected.  These products are still probably one of the best out-of-the-box detailed buildings. IMO.  Mike CT    There also appears to be a good demand for these buildings.
