Can't speak for anyone else but the art in these scenes has definitely changed the way I planned to do the scenery on my layout.
1) Use of ballast, rocks and plants are a must unless it's a city scene.
2) My telephone poles need telephone wires. Wires make a HUGE difference.
3) Backdrops -- even simple ones -- are really good at fooling the eye and brain.
4) Real 3R parts like wires, wheels and trucks can be weathered and included to good effect.
I like MR Paul's idea of somehow bundling all of these into one book or file. They are great resource and offer a level of variety that I haven't seen in magazines or books on scenery.
