I have a post war ZW transformer and my dog ate the right large handle. I have a new handle to replace the one that the dog ate. but I can't figure out how to take the handle off. Does anyone know how to remove and replace the handle?

It’s a friction fit on the shaft. The handle has a 4-40 nut imbedded in it so when inserting the machine screw, it pushes against the shaft to remove the handle. The screw is only used to remove the handle.

You don't drill the center hole, you just use the screw to remove the handle.

Thank you for the info on removing the ZW handle. I went to the hardware store and asked for a 4 X 40 X 1 inch screw and they had no idea what I was asking for. Pardon my ignorance, but what is a 4 X 40 X 1 inch screw.
If you can't find the screw go on the trainz web site and type in ZW parts they have the entire right-hand assembly.

4-40x1 is a number 4 screw, 40 threads per inch, 1” long. Find a better hardware store, an old school one.

a 4-40 screw is a number 4 machine screw with 40 threads per inch.
If you have an Ace Hardware in your area you should be able to find the screw there.

will the same procedure using the 4-40 x1 work for the ZWC handle?
