I posted a few weeks ago on ideas for making a new  282 controller and received some good ideas.  I have the box and switches  finished and am ready for the final installation and thought about a last minute idea.  Wouldn't it be nice to have a male / female connector on the cable so it could be disconnected for various reasons.  I have looked at a number of web sites and can't find any 5 wire ribbon connectors.  Any ideas on how to have a disconnect feature on the cable from the crane to the controller.  Thanks for any leads or ideas.

I use these pin and connectors that are used in Arduino and other micro processor applications. There are many on ebay, a search on Arduino, etc usually finds them. Also they are tiny enough to slip under the Fastrack road bed. I pulled this out to show it.

I've also had fair success using the arduino pin headers.  They are cheap and easy for things that are not being plugged in and out very often.  Mostly I've used them because I have them laying around and they don't require any special tools.

Another option, if you have the required tools, is to use a six wire phone jack or 8 pin CAT5 jack.  These have worked for me for switch machines, but I'm unsure if these will handle the current of the crane's magnet.

OK, I pulled a bone head move.  I ordered the connectors similar to GRJ, john galt and Cjack's recommendations, did not realize I was getting only the plastic housing, they did not come with the male / female connector pins:

I assume five each of these will cover one male / female connector:
