Yep got the email from Tvrm. Cannot wait for next saturday. I havent rode behind her since the 70's.
She is back in black!
Yep, finally in real workhorse black. Thanks for the update and photo.

Finally? It's the same paint scheme she wore from 1996-98. The picture below was from the 2nd to last day under steam in September 1998 at the runbys in Chickamauga, GA. It will be good tos ee the old girl under steam once again. The mood that day wasn't very festive to say the least.
Great to see her coming back. I guess that I'll miss the Crescent green, which was the only way that I ever saw her, but, after all, she is an old freight workhorse, not a thoroughbred, and she had never seen flashy paint when she was in regular service. Heck, she probably was never even washed on a regular bases!

It will be great to have her back out...she looks good.
Thats one **** of a paint job on that loco
Any idea if one of the manufacturers plans a model of her in black?
Where will she be running? Any chance she'd get north of the Mason Dixon?
Cool. It looks great in black.
Where will she be running?
Tennessee Valey Railroad Museum trackage this year.
Any chance she'd get north of the Mason Dixon?
Maybe in 2015?
kgdjpubs, you must be of the younger generation:
When I refer to "finally in black" I am thinking of when she toiled as Kentucky & Tennessee #12 pushing and pulling coal hoppers. She eventually went to Southern Green as a fan trip engine after Paul Merriman, DuPont retiree, bought her from K&T.
I bought two of the Lionel 1992 4501 green models and had one painted in workhorse black to make myself happy. My Dealer cringed.
One of them shown bottom right in photo...

I know. I remember her well in Southern green. She was in green paint the first time I ever saw her in North Carolina. I also was able to see and ride behind her twice in black between 1996-98.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as she is running, I don't care if they paint her pink with purple spots. It will be nice to see her out on the road again.

For all of us who can't be there next weekend I hope someone will post video of the debut. It will be GREAT to see her under steam again. I got my first look in Ashville in June of 1970 just before high school graduation.

And this time she has a stoker!
Beautiful! Thanks to the Tennessee Valley Museum & Shops for their excellent renovation effort.
I appreciate the correction Hot Water. But grin once in awhile, it will help blunt your sharp retorts a little--hopefully.
Beautiful! Thanks to the TVA folks excellent renovation effort.
I'm pretty sure that the TVA didn't have anything to do with it. How about The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, i.e. TVRM?

Very nice photos! Thanks for sharing.
Great photos! She does look very good.
Guess I'll need to repaint my K-Line Southern mikado to black now.
We were down at TVRM last week and we watched as they pulled her into the shop. The boiler had not yet been painted black - appeared to have primer or a cleanser on it. Sure looks great now. Also, there was a guy there with a drone shooting video - suspect that image from the FB page may be his work.
