This unit does not have the traditional 3 posts up top to wire common, lights and operating coil.  Instead the power goes through an inegrated circuit of which I have no knowledge. You can not hook up the gatement to insulated rail unless you buy about   $50 work of Fastrack accessories.  I am wondering if I can cut the wires that go to the coil and connect one of then to a 14 volt power source and the other to the common ground via insulated rail, This should work the coil, but would it mess up the integrated circuit that powers the lights.  My thinking is when I cut the wires to the coil and hook them to a 14 v and an insulated rail common, they will operate the coil with no backfeed to the IC,   Has Lionel changed the voltage going to the coil out of the IC or is it still the standard 14 volts to run the coil?

That should work, Joe.

RED and Black -Hot & Common - White is trigger wire

On page 7 of the manual they suggest getting the pigtail wire to get bare ends to connect. ( 8” 3-pin female pigtail (6-82038 SOLD SEPARATELY) That would keep the accessory factory original. It is a $9 dollar cable.

I think you can find some threads from when the plug & play gateman first came on to the market and guys had the same question.

Your choice...
