So you've bought a case of those Menards flat cars or have a bunch of old traditional Lionel or Railking flat cars and are wondering how to load those suckers.

Military tanks are a popular load. But everybody has Shermans. Heck I've a bunch myself...IMG_0532

I wanted something different. Something that would look good on a traditional 027 style, semi-scale flat car. So browsing  thru Ebay, I found a tank kit that I thought would fit the bill...

Notice the scale. 1/56, making it slightly smaller than 1/48. Consider that traditional (027) flat cars are slightly smaller than their scale brethren, I decided to build one and mount it on a Menards flat I had laying around. See how it turned out.

I think it looks pretty good. It doesn't "overpower" the flat car. It looks to me to fit right in. BTW, I did repaint and letter the flat car and filled all the deck holes. (I hate it when manufacturer put holes into their flat cars).

Here is this car next to another flat with Menards Jeeps and a Bren universal weapons carrier (which is 1/48 scale)...

Well there you have it. I hope this inspires you to fill those flats with something a little different.

During my searching, I came across an M10 Tank destroyer and an M3 Lee, which I am really excited about. So a couple of other projects will be on the way.

If you want to know why Sherman tanks are popular watch Kelly's Heros when Oldball says the famous line " A Sherman can give you a nice edge"

Oddball; "These engines are the fastest in any tanks in the European Theater of Operations, forwards or backwards. You see, man, we like to feel we can get out of trouble, quicker than we got into it. " WOOF WOOF WOOF
