Big Boy showing off
FOR TODAY: It's Sunday in and around Patsburg.
Even though it's a Sunday farmer Ernest Critchet must toil away. If not he risks loosing his crops. He looks forward to supper time, as he knows his wife, Bertha Lou, will have a delicious spread ready and waiting. She told him this morning that desert will be a surprise. Ol' Ernest is hoping it's gonna be strawberry short cake topped off with ice cream. Yum!
Switch tender Booker T. Briggs has to work on Sunday too. Trains still come into the yard although not as many as on the other 6 days of the week.
Patsburg Union Station stays pretty busy every day of the week. Sunday is a big travel day. Many passenger trains will arrive and depart here today. Several roads call on this station, hence the name Union Station. Those roads are the B&O, Pennsylvania, Norfolk & Western, Western Maryland, and Reading. Currently a freight train rolls through on track one.

A "rare" Greenbriar steamer, hauling passengers to beat the holiday rush, was spotted at the North Main Street station last night. Miss Daisy, instructing her driver to park the Chrysler Town and Country convertible in the end spot right by the engine, eagerly waits for mister to return from the big city on the 8:15 pm local...
Walt, enjoying the colorful scene...love the yellow "Vette" too!

FOR TODAY: Brakeman, Clancy Higgins waits for number 94 to back through the grade crossing as Skip Marlatt watches the goings on at the yard. ... just another day on the railroad.

A little July 4th party at the farmhouse at Sunset Farm...happy 4th holiday everyone! The scent of burgers, dogs, and diesel is in the air this night...

Thanks @Capetrainman
Seems like a dangerous place for a picnic, but no worries - ALL train traffic was ordered to not run on this July 4. Who knows how deep into the night it went on!

@Quarter Gauger 48 : About 4 years ago I bought either that camera or one that claimed to be able to take time lapse pictures. I took 3 seconds worth and that was it. No where long enough to shoot pictures like the one that I posted - it was a 5 minute exposure.
I clicked on your link and got this:
Thank you for suggesting one.

As a child my father would prepare a glass of ice cream and pour 7 up over it. He referred to it as a "Boston Cooler". Maybe a Cleveland thing????

FOR TODAY: The gandy dancers are working steadily albeit at a bit slower pace as the intense 96 degree heat permeates Patsburg. Good thing quiten time is near, cause these mens' eyeballs are about to pop out of their heads. One wonders how many of these fellers will head straight to the nearest watering hole once they're off the clock. ... just another day on the railroad.
Of all the dag gone days, this car chose the hottest day of the year to break an axle! This legion of fellers will giter back on the rails you can betcha sweet keaster on that!

Patrick, as always, nicely done on these two scenes with the dialogue to boot!

Pat, I’ll say it’s too hot! No wonder they push old guys like me out the door or off railroad property in the gandy dancers’ case!
Mark, corn ready already! Those hobos know how to eat!

Walt, yours is good. hobo camps came in “all shapes and sizes”. There was one on the B&O near a water stop before trains tackled a tough grade. It wasn’t very well defined. My great-grandpa manned the water tank and walked “over hill and dale” to get there from home, so he was aware.

FOR TODAY: The Free State Junction Railway's Mountain Division MOW detail is hard at work this morning! These fellers are feeling mighty grateful for the cooler weather up here on the mount. Welding helper Kirby Grayson is ready to set up so master welder Buster Frampton can begin today's welding tasks. Trixie Dumont and Wes Quigley are busy moving supply crates. It's going to be a long day but thankfully a cool day!
