before I made the very dumb mistake (in hind-sight) of selling my entire collection, most of which featured rolling stock and engines connected in some way to Pittsburgh.  Many WERE Pittsburgh (Pirates, Steelers, Kennywood, business here)

Well, at least now I own 2 Lionel by MTH tin-plate sets and I've wanted tin-plate for a LONG time.  But I DO miss unboxing all those cars that brought back many local memories.

Don't feel alone in later regretting selling trains that you had acquired and liked. I, too, have had a similar experience more than a few times in the past.

On the plus side, you are now a tinplate fan, as am I. I would pretty much be willing to part with all the trains in my collection (a lot of trains) before I would even think of parting with my O gauge tinplate (most of which is contemporary stuff previously made by MTH)

Thanks for sharing your experiences @Dave Ripp. and @Allan Miller.  I wasn't, and still am not, a person that buys and sells stuff.  When I buy, I plan on it being mine forever.  The decision to sell my collection was a very personal one the reason of which I have only shared with my daughter and son.

I knew that I still wanted some trains and since I always liked seeing images of tin-plate, I knew in advance that the money gained from selling my collection would be enough to get me started in tin-plate.  One awakening for me on tin-plate - the stuff, trains and accessories, are EXPENSIVE!!!

But as both of you have stated - missing those engines and cars that I really, really liked is hard to dismiss

FOR TODAY:  While working on my layout yesterday,  I had to climb on top of the layout to make the final connections to my long industrial spur.  While there, I was able to capture these photos from an angle that I've not before shown of my layout.   As I stood there on top of the layout, suddenly new creative ideas began dancing through my mind's eye.  The possibilities are many!   I love it when the creative juices flow!!

@Bar GP7 #63, hello Johan, It’s so nice to see you and your fine modeling back on this OGR Forum, I can safely say, We have missed You here. So, you may have already celebrated New Years 2025, but I wish everyone on this great topic a safe, healthy, New Year, 2025!IMG_2986IMG_2983IMG_2949

Leapinlarry,

Thank you very much. It's really nice to be back again. During the summer, I'm busy running the museum railroad association, and I don't really have time for anything else.

Especially last summer was really busy because our railway turned 150 years old and we had a big party. Now I have at least a few more months to work on my beloved hobby. Happy New Year 2025 everyone.

Johan

WOW guys you're killing me! I remember I could come here and mention everyone that had posted but I have lacked and now there are so many wonderful photos from you all that it would take a while, and I don't know if OGR has that much bandwidth!

Thank you all for sharing and I hope you all have a wonderful New Years!

Thanks for the wonderful photo's guys!

@BAR GP7 #63 Johan, what a great picture! I am with Mark that is it so realistic! Also I have never seen an engine like that before!

@trumpettrain Patrick wonderful shot of Orville on the Pennsy, I sure hope he doesn't fall off! Also nice to see that Ma & Pa are still working! There never seem to be a lack of things to do around there!

@walt rapp Nice looking manger scene!

I hope you all have a nice weekend!

For today's picture of the day, I offer these two cabooses from my ever-growing caboose collection, #19 on the left and #21 on the right, for the man who can never have too much caboose. On the left we have a Lionel PS-1 Vision Line UP Caboose, it Lights up, makes a whistle sound, has a couple of crewmen who talk and has marker lights.  On the right we have a Lionel PS-1 UP Caboose, it only lights up and has marker lights.  This caboose also goes with the Lionel WWII poster boxcars, so if you're collecting those boxcars you might want to add that caboose to your collection as well.
