Our President commuted from Delaware to D.C. via Amtrak, and commuter rail/ rail transport was one of the priorities in the massive infrastructure bill attempting to get pushed through as part of the 'Green New Deal'.

The NEC needs a tremendous amount of work - track geometry, signaling, station upgrades

I punched tickets and drilled (moved) rolling stock, as a conductor, between Sunnyside Yard, Penn Station and Washington DC between 1974 and 1987. While conducting a passenger job I was hit in the head with a piece of falling concrete in Penn Station while writing down car numbers as the train entered the station from the yard.
