I have a few thoughts about this subject that I would like to share and also welcome your comments. I used the PIKO DCC System with the wire-connected control unit with several Marklin/LGB digital locos with mixed results. Not all of the functions could be accessed in spite of the specific numeric commands, and this was very frustrating. It seemed like LGB's and/or PIKO's version of DCC was more proprietory than standard, and they did not mate well with each other's. A "close, but no cigar" situation. After that experience, I decided to stick with the reliable original analog LGB locos, and not deal with the DCC incompatability issues. At the time, my dealer recommended the PIKO system since the new Marklin/LGB Central Station was not yet available and that it had some issues that had to be resolved before its release. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that the DCC system is apparently not standardized across ALL the manufacturers. By putting their own proprietory "stamp" on their own particular DCC system, they encourage incompatability across brands, and the end user reaps the frustration.
"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.
Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Conclusion: ALL the manufacturers should at least standardize the DCC component of their control systems, regardless of their own proprietory elements. That would be a NICE gesture on their part, and enable more flexible operator choices.
Any thoughts or similar experiences to mine? Fortunately, my dealer allowed me to return and/or trade in both the Marklin/LGB digital locos and the PIKO digital system. I am now 100% analog with less hassels!
Art, if you read my previous reply, ignore it.
Being one who runs an HO layout strictly on DCC, I just did some research.
While your PIKO DCC system adheres to NMRA standards, you need to be careful which LGB and/or Maerklin/LGB locos you get. See the following:
LGB MTS and NMRA DCC Standards?
The LGB Multi-Train System is based on the principles of the NMRA "DCC" standard. However, the LGB Multi-Train System goes further than the standard to offer additional features, including full compatibility with the digital sound systems found in LGB locomotives and improved operation on outdoor layouts.
The above indicates that your PIKO, or any other pure NMRA DCC system will NOT access all the functions on your LGB locos.
David: THANK YOU for the info you provided! You have confirmed the at least partial incompatability of the LGB DCC system due to their proprietary augmentation, and that is my point! Although doing such is clearly their prerogitive, it works against a cooperative spirit of sharing technology! LGB's "It is OUR way or the highway!" approach is what I strongly disagree with!
I forget but Piko DCC is really made by Lenz or Bachmann...something like that. LGB MTS likes using that Susi interface from what I've gathered over the years. Why not use Massoth as that's same as LGB?? Thing is Massoth is big $$$. Give Dan Pierce a call at Train-Li east as he's up in Mass...he will know all answers as that's about all he does is repair Piko & LGB and he may know some trick work arounds for you.
C. Jones: THANK YOU for that information and suggestions! One source claimed that Massoth actually made the PIKO digital system, but I cannot confirm that.
What is a "Susi" interface?
