Wow, my local comic shop has bins full of these for cheap, but it never even occurred to me that they were ~1:48. Great tip!

Lee, we know for a fact NSA is monitoring the Internet, so why not this forum? Their algorithms may not distinguish between 'real' and 'pretend'. You now may be on the domestic terrorist 'watch list'. Every email, every post, every website you visit, every purchase, every piece of snail mail, every telephone call will be analyzed. GPS tracking devices will be sewn in your undergarments and attached to the underside of your bumper (in case you decide to go commando). Way to go!
What, me worry?
And by the time their finished with Lee's stuff !?!?......New O gauge forum fans.

Some might be a tic larger. Some measure in height about 6'4" to maybe 6'6". I bought a bunch on the bay for less than a buck each to my door. Many may not be usable to the average train person, ie the superhero's but the side kicks and thug types, which are mostly regular people give another source for some different figures. And those are usually the less desirable one's anyway.

Lee definitely needs a 1:48 Batman for his Detectives set.
I like Batman but heis not a detective, exactly, so . . . Still, I'm putting James Bond and his silver DB5 on the layout, so maybe I need to find a Batmobile.

The first Batman was a feature story in "Detective Comics #27" 1937. I think the 1940s Batmobile is what you need, Lee. Corgi and Hot Wheels make them.
All this missile talk! I cant take it anymore! Im going to get the PW Gantry and launcher out of the closet.

A million Batman fans around the world would disagree with you.
Batman did get his start in DC's "Detective Comics" series, and was billed from the start as a "Superhero Detective."
I love this, and the story it is from. From the Earth to the Moon. I might have to do this . . . you are riught!
Lee, won't your family get a bit upset when you lower a 19' long 6" cast iron pipe down through your house from your layout? Not to mention the 8,333lbs of gun cotton packed into the bottom 4' of it?
Definitely - they will be really upset when I test-fire it, too.
But it will be fun . . .
I'm going to start on the silo mechanism this weekend, I hope.
Let me know if you need help building/programming the PLC panel for launch control. Even if it's just a Testers model with a SRB, it would be a blast to launch.
Gilly
Thanks. I have a trial mechanism for raising the missile out of the silo building now and plan to spend the afternoon playing with gear ratios - I'm not sure how fast it should rise out of the silo. Must be not too fast, and not too slow, but I'll know the right speed when I see it.
Lee,
Those are hydrogen scoops on the 'Mercury 9' rocket to gather hydrogen from the interstellar reaches for the ion engines. At least it sounds reasonable.
Oh, what was I thinking? Of course they are! I don't know how I could have missed that. It is a cool looking rocket - very 1950s science fiction.
Hi,
In your quest to build a missile site, may I suggest that you look up Zeus, Sprint, Spartan, and Safeguard. They were involved in the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defense system. Such a system went live for a very short time at Warren Airforce Base in Minot, ND. They were defending the ICBMs there. I worked on the ABM project from 1960 to 1975.
Oh, by the way, ICBMs were stationed at Plattsburg, NY.
Take care,
Dick

FE Warren AFB is in Cheyenne, WY, not Minot, ND.
The only US Army Safeguard ABM site to be deployed and operational was near Grand Forks, AFB, ND to defend the Minuteman ICBM Missiles located there.
Safeguard ABM sites were also proposed to be around Whiteman AFB, MO and Malmstrom AFB, MT but were never deployed.
12 Atlas "F" ICBMs were built and deployed around Plattsburg AFB, NY and were the only ICBMs deployed east of the Mississippi River.
I'm coming to the party late but here is a video which shows my Lionel 175 Rocket Launcher buried in my own version of area 51. Fast forward to 5:00 in the video.
Thanks for the endorsement KD!
You'll notice that the area around the site is black and white. There is something going on here that only a few people know about. It is not as dense as a black hole but it's an area where color cannot escape...sort of a dark gray hole. The area is more whimsical than real but you may be able to borrow some ideas...TJ
FAntastic. I love it.
What did the capsule say to the booster rocket?
Aw, it's just a stage you're going through!

Regarding the location of the safeguard site, I stand corrected. I've heard that at one time Winnipeg was not too happy with the radar.
There once was a lone ICBM silo (Titan, I think) east of the Mississippi. It wasn't a complete functioning silo. I saw it being destroyed when it was no longer needed.

Wowak:
I can link you a 1:48 Saturn V kit that is very detailed.
I am certified to fly Hi Power Amatuer Rockets.
Be advised, It won't stand on your layout unless you have cathedral ceilings !
And I fear no list, I'm on so many they are making up new ones just for me.

I've got a 1:350 Starship Enterprise (That's almost 3 feet long) in the closet that I've got to build first, but yeah, send me the details.
