Good Evening,
If someone here has the August 1989 issue of Model Railroader handy could you please check and see if Madison Hardware posted a farewell advertisement in this issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Derek

Sorry I can't help directly, but you can get a free 24 hour trial on MR's site that allows you to browse all their old issues back to issue one. I did this a few days ago to play with it.
Derek, I've got the magazine, I'll have to go downstairs and look.
Got it! Page 47
If you click on the photo you can read it pretty well. If you want a better shot, I have to take it out of the binder to get it flat.
Elliot, great work!!! If I were writing the book, I'd give you a complimentary copy for your efforts. Well-deserved.

Thanks David, I did get a little winded schlepping a year's worth of magazines in a binder upstairs. This is one of those rare moments when having the huge magazine library pays off.
Elliot,
Thanks for confirming that for me! No need to do anything further, I will grab a copy off of that auction site to cut up and sacrifice to the flatbed scanner. I have a stack of orders from Madison that I am sifting through, and the August 89 advertisement was actually referenced from an order from Switzerland. Some interesting stuff in that stack of orders.
Thanks again,
Derek
Glad I could help Derek. If I had been smart, I would have carried the camera down, instead of the magazines up. It's a lot lighter.
Thanks Gary! I appreciate you taking the time to pull that together.

I'll never forget the first time I laid eyes on that ad. I was sitting in the car in the parking lot at Metropark station waiting for my wife's train from the city. My copy of Model Railroader had just arrived and I was browsing through it when I noticed the special message in the body of the ad. As the third generation of Madison Hardware customer in my family, I think I went into shock. It was one of those things you thought would be around forever but such was not the case.

I wonder who's story that final advertisement will be placed with....
Speaking of, I should be ready for beta reading pretty quick. Maybe another 3-4 weeks. Be on the lookout for an email from me.
Derek:
Looking forward to it!

HI Derek:
In Detroit we did not have Madison Hardware, we had "The Train Clinic", this is from Model Railroader 1963. We used to ride our bicycles to this shop to just hang out.
