Great stuff guys and thanks for keeping the thread going.

Here are a couple of new ones I picked up over the Holiday.

From my normal supplier (Walgreen's ) a 1957 Vette.  Note the removable hard top installed, must be winter time.  Excellent detail with the side vents on the rear of the front fenders and (last year) single headlights (58 had quads). Note also the "fuel injection" lettering on the side cavity, this was new in '57.  The scale is really too large at 1/34 but I just love the Corvettes of this era so I could not resist.

Next from a new supplier, Tru Value Hardware and a little more expensive ($9.99 vs $5.99 for the Vette) a VW bus (21 window) with a roll back opening roof.  If I remember correctly, this had all of 60 HP and would have had some difficulty keeping up on today's Texas highways and their 75-80 mph speed limits.

I really thought the maker did a fine job on the front of the van capturing the classic VW styling.

This one is a bit smaller at 1/40 but still larger than 1/48 

Well those are my new vehicles now all I have to do is find appropriate places on the layout.

Congratulations, Don!!!!  Why don’t my stores have these?  My stores have modern models, usually 1:36 or so.

@Mark Boyce - Thanks for your comment Mark. Candidly I think in the case of both Walgreens and CVS its just that I am in those stores several times / week and can just keep an eye out when they replace the stock in the display.  It is true that modern models predominate so you have to be lucky to catch the few old ones before they are gone.  The Tru-Value store model (VW bus) is new to me, I don't go in there as often and they are more expensive, but the selection seemed to be more on "classic" cars vice new ones.   Only advice I can give is try your Tru-Value store once in awhile although I can't rule out that this was a "Christmas time" special display.

Don, yes I am in Rite Aid several times a week and Ace Hardware, but neither carry any cars. Lowes and someone else have some, but they are modern.  I can’t think of any Tru Value stores nearby.  It’s okay, because as it is with trains I already have too many!  😄

Don't want to get political, but before the Ukrainian thing, there were offered Ford Model A cloned vehicles, a bus, out of Russia.  Just discovered they also had a larger "Zis-8" bus that LOOKS like a cloned 1930-31? Chevy.  l could put a tiny blue bowtie on radiator, and have a bigger rail or achoolbus for prewar steam era.  Have, seen one, have opinion as to how U S these look, that were imported before the war?  Denali Park in Alaska, then Mt. McKinley, operated a fleet of circa 1930 Chevy tourist buses, back in the day.

Well as you can see from the above, I was lucky enough to find some new die cast cars recently.  Yesterday I put them to work in the layout and I think they look pretty good.  You can judge - so here are some new scenes.

That Amtrak train stopping at the Depot really has traffic backed up in "Small Town".  Poor Officer Sullivan (Small Town's entire police force) is really having trouble keeping everyone in line and tempers under control.

Here is the local Corvette club having their monthly meeting breakfast at the Diner.  The '55,'57,'63 split window are parked out front.  You know I was watching the classic car auction on TV last night, I wonder if the Club know they have abot 1+ Million$ worth of cars sitting in a Diner parking lot!!

Vehicles are where you find them. You never know when you will see something you can use on your layout. Such was the cae yesterday when I was picking up a prescription at Walgreens and spied a rack of vehicles. These two were sitting there and I thought they fit in my time frame so they are headed  downstairs later today to be a part of a town .  Bill

This is a picture of an old plastic model taht I put together as a young teen for my layout. It has been smashed twice and I realized it was a perfect candidate to become a derelict on my layout somewhere. It has only taken 50 plus years to get in the condition it is in now. I used a primer on the plastic and then covered it all with Floquil rust. I decided to try using just chalks to get the desired old rusty truck look without paint. All the coloring is chalk. This should add a little realism to some area on the layout.

You know Bill 50+ years really is a short time to develop a masterpiece! Looks great to me!

The derelict looks great.  Nicely done.

That yellow pickup is a nice vehicle, but be careful where you place it.  If it's the same as the Kinsmart I had, it's 1/32 and will dwarf other pickups.  Same with the VW bus.  Mine end were purchased for use in 28mm (1/56) post apoc wargames and dirtied up a bit... 

Great looking vehicles at a great price, but just too dang big and I eventually sold them off.  For the most part they've been replaced in wargaming and on the Christmas layout with stuff a bit closer to scale.

I saw that Caddy in my local Lowes in white. Was in a hurry so I didn't grab it. Going to have to go back!

CVS had the same Cadillac in red a while back.  I did a little customizing.  The two-tone steering wheel was a bit tricky and I need to do a better job of the floor mats, but it’s a fun model at a good price.
