Getting frustrated trying to strip the ends of small braided wire like I'm guessing # 30?? It's on HO lighting for street or yard lighting. Thanks.
"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.
Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Do you mean braided wire or stranded wire? There is a difference. For number 30 I would use a No Nik stripper. Made for solid wire it will work on stranded too.
BTW this is braided wire.

Thanks Pete. But what is a no nik stripper. Is it a tool or a liquid?? Also it is stranded wire like the hair I usta have. lol.
John, its a tool. They are made for a specific wire gauge. Search ebay for No Nik 30 awg. New thay are pricey.
Here is one.
I also use a Paladin stripper which works on all wire sizes 10-30+.
These are even pricier though. This was the original and now imported copies can be had at your local home store. Not sure how well those work though. I use this tool nearly every day.

The Ideal Stripmaster comes in a variety of models and replaceable "blades." There is one that contains a 30-gauge hole
Micro-Mark sells a stripper (Hanlong Tools HT-5023) for stripping stranded wires from 22 to 32 AWG. I think they are having a sale at the moment.

I'll get howls for this but have done it for years. I flip a Bic. before it can harden I just pull it off. Nice and clean.
I have a No-Nik stripper for my #30 solid wire-wrap wire, but I routinely use the Hanlong Tools HT-5023 Stripper for most of my bench work. It's been very good for me, and the price is certainly right.
I strip wire with a hobby knife. Amazingly, I haven't severed any digits yet.
I use the OK Industries Wire Stripper Adjustable 20-30 AWG. Once you get used to the amout of pressure to apply it is real easy to use.

Forget the digits---have you severed any strands?
About the guy with a Bic: there are expensive hot-wire strippers. They do not seem to work on Teflon insulation. Each wire replacement is $28, and they burn out regularly. The tool takes two.
I had a NASA qualified technician do one of my airplanes years ago. Took her out to dinner afterward. She used a deal that clinches the wire, then the blades go down just enough and yank the insulation off - all in one squeeze.
Thanks to all. I had a squeeze wire stripper for larger wire. They work great. I like the Ida of a hand held graduated wire stripper . Just need one that is that small. So I'm going to go with Norton and GunrunnerJohn
I have used a knife, very easy and fast.

hi these also work perfectly every time on the exact wire size you need skinned but cost more but you can't make a mistake with these!

That's only if you define #22 as "very small wire". From the page you linked...
- Works on wire gauges: 8-22 AWG+
FWIW, I'm not particularly enamored with those types of strippers anyway. It's fine if you have room to work, but I find them a PITA working around any close work. Also, it's as easy to make a mistake with those as it is with these, with either you have to pick the correct slot for the size wire you're stripping.
What I dislike about the stripper you show, GRJ, is that it's not a one-hander.
The Jameco stripper shown appear to be the same as the Ideal, for which different "blades" are available down to 30 or so, and they are interchangeable. Goggling Ideal Stripmaster should disclose the different ones. Admittedly, they are tough in close quarters.
Very ingenious!
I use a sharp X-acto knife with small pointy blade and have found wire strippers to be too rough on the wire to strip fine wire.
I would cut on a board if possible and cut the insulation gently length wise trying not to cut into the wire. Play like a surgeon trying not to cut the skin too deep and cut the mussel.

I've been using my teeth for 30+ years but the toenail clipper idea is great! Of course I wouldn't stop and hunt for them so I'll continue to use my teeth.
I think I was able to do that when I was three. Now I can hardly reach my toes with my fingers.
All great idea's went with the #5023 hand held stripper. Thanking all of you.
