Excellent Fred, does it runs better than 4014 ? Nice freight set also.
Very best, Daniel
Fred,
Very nice. I never saw a live steam Big Boy model. How much maintenance do you need to do and what's the process for starting her up?
Tom
Really neat video, thanks for sharing! Can someone explain to me.......the track on the inside with multiple rails, is that for running different gauges? .....I’ve never seen anything like that...thanks!
No Dynamic brakes there! Is that Aster? I almost bought a Schools Class by Aster... Maybe some day the deal will be right!

Tom,
This is an ASTER gauge 1 model which I made from a kit (in 1980). This could be made coal fired or gas fired. I tried coal but failed so it is gas fired (lighter butane gas). The difficult part to run it is the remove it from its glass case on the first floor and bring it in the garden since it is quite heavy . I just put water in the boiler and tender and gas also in the tender, oil around and lighten up. After some minutes steam comes from the safety valves and I can run. It has an axle pump which pumps water from the tender into the boiler so it can easily run 45 minutes without touching (but I 'll stay close to it when it runs). After the run I remove all the water (from boiler and tender) and clean it with a soft cloth and then I put it back in the glass case.

My layout has two parallel tracks for 1 gauge; in the outer I have added one rail such that I can run S gauge and 3-rail 1 gauge; In the inner I added a rail for 0 gauge and an extra rail to run 3-rail 0 gauge.

Thanks for the answers Fred....your craftsmanship is absolutely stunning!.........Pat
VERY NICE! I once saw an actual Aster Big Boy at Diamondhead, MS in 1996, and it must have been 40+ inches long! A truly AMAZING model! ☺
