Hello BxCrSun fans...here we are on a nice cool spring day in central Texas, just 58 degrees but sunny.  Today I have a " late bloomer" from the Lionel tinplate era.  The 655 boxcar but in the configuration from 1941 with 1940 issue couplers ( simulated knuckle on the box).  This is the "rubber stamped" version of this car, as Lionel sought to create rolling stock that was more realistic than toy like.  Who could have known in the early part of 1941 what would happen later that year and that by 1942 all toy production would be stopped.  So in one sense, here you have the last gasp of classic Lionel tinplate rolling stock.

Larry nice NH cars they look very detailed. Thanks for sharing

I'm excited about adding to my beer car roster two gems from Atlas O: the Schaeffer and Schlitz reefers. Ordered them on-line last night, thanks to Beth at The Public Delivery Track, one of our Forum Sponsors.

Hey guys and gals, open your wallets and buy from our Forum Sponsors, to keep this Forum in good financial shape.

Once I get those reefers and Sunday comes around, you will see photos of them here, well in advance of Opening Day at the old ball parks. Arnold

Love the old kits and love to find em built decently.  Mix of Athearn, All Nation, Scale-Craft, Westbrook, Lobaugh, and a few others....and a lotof em I used to pick up for $4 or $5 each although that is harder to do these days.  And they weren't all built to the  quality standards.  Clean up and fix up the best and use the worst for parts in a lot of cases.  The look great on scale trucks, or even prewar Lionel trucks, doesn't really matter.

For Boxcar Sunday, here are a few boxcars from my two favorite railroads, the Southern Pacific and the Western Pacific.

@WP, John, awesome video of some of my favorites!!! I love that SP F3 Black Widow ABA set, and that black gondola with the auto chassis in it I know well! The WP boxcar with feather on it is unique too, with the FR over the feather. Great layout, two of my favorite railroads too. Thanks for posting that!

@Dennis Holler  - WOW Dennis that is quite a collection of box cars...those on pre-war trucks are really nice (P.S. - I know a layout upon which they would look really good @lee drennen - love the PW 1950's stuff and I intend to follow suit today.

Well folks, if you had a wide load to put in the car, why not have double doors.  Here is the 6468-25 double door New Haven boxcar.  Based on the configuration of the "NH" logo this one was offered in 1956-1958.  Officially labeled as an "automobile" car, this used the same body as the more well known 6464 series boxcars except it was equipped with double doors.

Well that's it for me this Sunday afternoon.  Its sunny but cold here in central Texas, 46 degrees and we had a frost last night.

So best wishes to all

Don great choice! And what a treat for me I’ve never seen this one now you have forced me once again to go searching for this fine Gem. Thanks for sharing.

Here's a couple.Layout Tucker 1948

Not sure but my captions didn't come thru. I used the Tucker sign from one of the displays that they came in. I also like the Burlington Route auto boxcar for the project. The Russel's Dairy reefer was one of several custom cars we did for the Museum. The artwork came off an actual milk bottle from the small dairy in North Freedom, WI.Layout Tucker 1948Layout Tucker cars unloadingLayout Tucker cars unloadingLayout Tucker red carLayout Tucker cars insideLayout Russels Dairy

Very nice; love those Tucker 48's. It'd be fun to see a couple of '38 Lincoln Zephyrs rolling out of that car, too!

Presently just picked up the Menard's flat car with 2 jeeps on it and also working on the box car customizing it with water slide decals printed at a local shop here in the Mount Clemens MI area Honoring my unit in Nam from 57 years ago.  It's still great seeing these guys at our reunions held every other year.ALettered Box Car
