Got this vintage Fred Harvey Santa Fe dining car menu the other day.

If only you could get a steak for a couple of bucks on an Amtrak train now.

If only you could get a steak on an amtrak now. I started collecting AMT

Santa Fe aluminum passenger car and ran across this while looking for

the diner. IMG_20180514_143848IMG_20180514_143906

I purchased these things about a week ago, and finally had a chance to test run everything before work yesterday.  I'm quite thrilled to finally own a model of my favorite locomotive, as well as a nice train to pull with it.  I'm planning to put together a "ferry move" consist like they've utilized in the modern excursion environment, hence the NS gondola which I plan to put a coal load into.  I have passenger cars from a few other railroads I'll probably mix in as well for a nice long train.

Lionel TMCC N&W J 611

Lionel N&W Auxiliary tender

MTH N&W Excursion tool car

Lionel NS Mill gondola

Lionel N&W Pocahontas cars

I also purchased this Lionel N&W northeastern caboose, which I may use with the "ferry" move train, but I'm not sure.  Either way it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

Just bought this K Line Adolphus Anheuser Busch Business Car from a hobby shop. She’s going to remain a shelf piece for a while until i can get wider curves on a future new layout when I’m older. It can run on 0-31 curves but the couplers do not cooperate when hooked up to any given car or locomotive as the coupler hits the inside of the bottom skirting.

I commented on Kirk's DD1 and how I wanted one and a forum member contacted me. He was interested in selling his DD1. We quickly came to an agreement and yesterday, the DD1 arrived. I put a BCR in and then powered it up. It runs nice on my test track. I can't wait to take it down to my club and run a passenger train with the DD1 in the lead. Thanks Mark.

Ken, looks great!  I'm trying to restrict myself to PRR or railroads that go through PA but I think I'll get bored of the Tuscan red or green over time and I'm glad my LIRR's give a little nod back to their PRR roots.

You reminded me to open mine up and likely replace the battery.  What kind of BCR did you install?  Being as I'm new to the hobby I'm unfamiliar with what to watch out for vis-à-vis batteries.  Do all PS2, and Protosound (PS1) engines need either an 8.4 V rechargeable battery or a BCR?  Do they all charge from the track or charging port or do you need to remove the battery physically (latter one I had to add but I guess not).  Not mentioning other product lines as it's not appropriate but intend to find out.

Kirk

Yesterday, I gave $80 for this beautiful K-Line FM Trainmaster - has TMCC, RS4, fan driven smoke, electro couplers, etc., and they all work just fine. My first functioning TMCC loco, I had a ball learning how to control it. Didn't take long to pop the command base antenna wire loose (alligator clipped) and have a runaway!

This is one of the engines of my boyhood dreams, although when I was 9 years old, it was Lionel's version that had my eye!

BCRs come in two flavors. The BCR (1) is for the earlier PS1 & PS2 5V boards. It looks like a 9V Battery and replaces the 9V battery that comes with the engine. The BCR-2 is for the later 3V PS2 boards and plugs in where the PS2 battery plugs in. Both are simple one for one replacements and can be bought at J& W Electronics.  https://www.jandwelectronics.com/

All PS1 and PS2 engines need batteries. PS1 and early PS2 need 9V (8.4V) batteries and later PS2 needs 3V Batteries or BCRs (or equivalent). If you try to run a PS1 engine with a bad battery you can blow the PC Board. Weak or dead batteries in PS2 engines will cause problems. In the 5V boards a weak or dead battery can mess up the board so make sure the batteries are good and kept charged. That is why I replaced all my batteries in my PS 1&2 engines with BCRs. If any engine has the old white battery replace it immediately for a newer green battery.

They all charge from the track or charging port. The charging port is preferred. (No charging necessary with BCR)

(latter one I had to add but I guess not).  Not mentioning other product lines as it's not appropriate but intend to find out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pat.  I have to dig through my inventory and start replacing these batteries.  How do you know if you have an 3V or a 5V PS2 board?

Kirk, check your operator's manual for location of a charging port.

The 3V PS2 systems have small rectangular charging ports.  They are located on the underside of diesels and electrics (for the most part).  Located on underside of tenders on steam engines.

The later 5V PS2 have round charging ports.  And if you have an engine that IS a PS2 but has no charging port (earlier one's) it is 5V.

Finally had a day off since my job went from part time to full time at work. Ran some errands today and stopped at Hobby Lobby and found the Railroad Crossing sign on clearance. Also found Unstoppable when at the mall. Once I got home and checked the mail my first ever order from Menards came a day early. Got the free half track with my Diabolical Angel B 17 box car, Wish Menards could do a B17 Nine-O-Nine boxcar I have seen the Nine-O-Nine several times over the past few years when it has been flown into a local airport for show. I could not be any more pleased will order from Menards again might order a few flat cars and some WW2 Jeeps sometime. Now speading the rest of my night off watching Unstoppable will not have another night off until next Thursday.

  • TRAIN STUFF TODAY

Not sure if this qualifies, but I got parts! Yep, parts from Jeff Kane to repair the yard sale stuff I bought, plus some parts that were needed but too small to order on their own. No pics, but ….. my 44 ton 627 is now fully functional, my first Tuscan red porthole caboose has new rails on it, and my 1615 switcher has a new valve gear assy (missing) and red jewels, and my 8602 has a new front truck (also was missing), and … well, you get the idea. About 8 different engines and rolling stock now functional thanks to Jeff (PLUG - his order was correct, shipped the same day I placed it, and best prices around - thanks Train Tender!) So yeah, I won't be lacking for things to do this Memorial Day weekend. God bless all our service men who are gone or missing - thank you for your ultimate service!!!!

First, Jeff is a great guy and is really responsive.

Second - it's just so great to see more trains brought back from the dead - one of my favorite things, when I'm not making something new! Congrats and enjoy.

Today I got two of my four packages compliments of Mr. Postman. Found another Weaver TOFC on the Bay and my order from Scenic Express came. Still to come another set of Weaver die cast trucks and the rest of the building flats to start working on my brewery. Pics..............Paul

Some good looking stuff there Paul, But I am surprised no Mr. Brown! LOL

Stopped at a local hobby shop on my day off from work. I saw some some rolling stock I would have liked to get but I had a budget. I was about to leave when I noticed a box under some other older boxes  on a shelf. Now I'm not much into tank cars. However, as soon as I saw this Red Baron Fuel Tank car I thought of a family friend that passed away several years ago. He loved aviation and history just as I do. Love this car and can't wait to run it on my small layout.

Got this at Online Trains in Tacoma yesterday. The same system I already have, apparently new in the box. I just tested the throttle and it looks untouched before I tried it out.
They only wanted $25 for the whole thing. Perfect for an extra throttle or if my system goes belly up someday.
