A KMT Yakima Valley Washington Apples in Orange. Been trying to find one for years, I have the 3 variations of the Yellow Washington Apples from KMT but the Orange one has been super elusive.

Perfect for a Live Steam ride-on layout!

Given the recent demise of Weaver.... I had to (and the price was right). And yes, I know the Powhattan Arrow didn't have baggage cars. John Q Public isn't going to give a rip when they see this running on our modular layout. My GGD set likely will never leave my house.

 

Now I've got the first, last and two add-on cars from the Weaver 5 car set. Patience, and I may eventually pickup cars 2-4.

 

Had a few items show up this week. Got a pair of Weaver Dow Chemical tank cars (another chemical company I got to tour in high school Chem class) from another Forum member. Also picked up more lumber loads for a Center Beam Flat Car project I'm working on. Got an MTH A&W Root Beer box car (I grew up drinking the stuff and I still do, albeit diet now). And the big item was a pair of MTH ATSF GP38-2's which were really impressive.

Century Club Tender for the Turbine from Nassau Hobby!

 

Picked up 20 issues of LIVE STEAM magazine from the 1977-78 era. Different kind of a read, for sure. No plans to get in to live steam but interesting. At 50 cents each it is cheap entertainment.

The last backorder item came into Side Track Hobbies a few weeks ago so I went down and picked it up plus several items they had been holding for me. Besides a PH180, some figurines, and a MTH AFT 70' full dome car to add to my MTH AFT train I run at NCT shows, the coolest item was the new Lion Chief Plus NYC RS-3.  I got this engine to also run at shows to show folks interested in O gauge how simple it is to get into O and how easy and neat command control is.  While at Side Track, I bought a Lionel caboose to go with it.  Can't wait for the next show.

 

 

 

After taking a break from trains for a few years I couldn't resist buying a Atlas O California Zephyr observation car. I bought a CB&Q Silver Penthouse and ordered a set of Silver Solarium decals from LBR Enterprises. Personally I think Atlas missed a mark by not doing the Silver Solarium in non Amtrak! I have traveled on the Solarium and Lariat several times and wanted the models of them. Going to disassemble them and paint the interiors as they are currently and load them with passengers. Should be a fun project!

Very nice, RT!  Always desirable to have the 5 striper.  I might have tried saving the paint on the Williams shell I own, had it been that paint scheme.

 

BTW, I haven't forgotten the recommendation you gave me on ERR upgrades.  Other priorities intervened but now I'm ready to call Boxcar Bill.  I still have the scale MTH GG1 that I want to convert.

Last Thursday, I went to a nearby Tuesday Morning store.  They have a well stocked toy area with some great prices on many items.   I found 2 Corgi Heroes Under Fire fire engines.  One is a US53606 Peter Pirsch & Sons Canopy Cab Pumper lettered for the Milwaukee Fire Dept.  The other is a US53607 Peter Pirsch and Soms Closed Cab Sedan decorated for Metropolitan Fire Dept. of Sarasota Springs, FL.  The retail was $69.99 each but I paid $19.99 each.  In the past, I've found many greatly discounted Corgi diecasts in  Tuesday Morning stores.  Check'em out!

This may get TMCC also in time right now I'm digging out from moving finally finished moving this past Friday now I have boxes on top of boxes and we went to a smaller place to top it off I gained a garage which I already lost but plan to have one heck of a garage sale soon lol. I have a GP-9 (NYC) I need to put TMCC in also as the electronic E-unit died so now is the time but need to find it and get set up to do both before I go buying so it's going to be a while.

Cool looking collection!!

It's Labor Day weekend, which means Christmas is hitting the shelves of a retailer near you!  It also means it's time to start tuning up the Polar Express & getting it ready for the season! 

 

Here my PE GP7 brings my new-to-me set of PE Heavyweight passenger cars out of the (imaginary) storage yard to the (imaginary) maintenance facility for pre-season prep. The set consists of the baggage, abandoned toy, and observation cars, as well as 3 coaches.  I added the dining car new from Pat's, though the maintenance shop will have to call the manufacturer, as it's missing a brake shoe off the end of one of the trucks. 

 

I also upgraded my power to a Z-4000.  Sorry again for the low-quality cell-phone video. 

 

I bought this flat car recently.  I think it is a K-line, but don't recall for sure.  I thought it was really special, so I bought it.

Picked up these two for a good price. Going to repaint them for the Buffalo Creek Railway in Buffalo. This winter I'll be working on a switching layout of Buffalo in the basement.....Paul

This weekend was payback time, as I owed a good friend my services in exchange for a number of old radio finds at yard sales.  I buffed out his car, a gorgeous '58 Pontiac Parisienne that he's auctioning at Hershey next month.  As buddies will do, he tried to pay me just the same, which I politely refused.  Instead, he handed me this....an offer I couldn't refuse

 

 

I believe this 2046 dates to 1951 and appears well cared for.  I did spend a couple of minutes touching up some paint chips after giving it a bath.

 

The icing on the cake was a set of cars to go with it.  All in equally good condition.  My limited reference material doesn't show the 2046 heading any set, which I find hard to believe.  ( found it in the '53 catalog, heading a number of 027 sets  ???) It's the biggest PW offering next to the 773 and the shell has it's roots in the prewar 226.  IMHO the tender should have been the same as on the 773.  The 2046W looks diminutive behind that hulking boiler.

No pic at the moment, but I got a restored Lionel 682 this past week that runs/looks great. I think it's original and not a converted 681 (nothing to prove it, but the engine is very nice and the guy I got it from has a great reputation).

Nothing exciting but bought two silver 2400 series passenger cars from my antique dealer. Not in bad shape, good price so I will mess around with them. He has two more that I might get, too. An article in CTT about repainting some got me to thinking- a nice set of dark blue cars would look nice.

I've thought about a blue with grey roof set of 2400s myself.

The cars are silver so I was thinking a silver roof, a blue band across the top of the windows with another along the side. If I didn't like it I could make it all blue. Have to find a nice medium dark blue.

Another addition to the KMT accumulation. The Alaska RR in blue to join the other 2 KMT ARR variations.

 

The other 2 ARR are the Tuscan and the Black, supposedly the KMT black does not exist.

It's not rare or anything but it's cool because the McBay seller scammed me!

It came to me in the opposite of running and hadn't been tried in probably the last dozen years judging by the gunk in the motor and the dust inside the body...
But in true Marx fashion, a touch of elbow grease and some Kroil and ZOOM!!! Away it went at mach 10 around my little oval. Cleaned up the body and re-assembled (both the FM and caboose) and it's ready to drag some tin.
