I hope the title says it all, but I'm wondering can the Cab2 remote (the full Legacy remote) talk directly to the Base1L?

If you're wondering why I'm asking, here is my thought.  My main layout is a legacy layout so I already have the full Legacy Base and Legacy (Cab2) remote.  Currently for my Christmas tree setup I run conventional, but eventually, I'd like to run command under the tree.  It would be a slight hassle to unplug and move my base to each layout.  However, the remote would be easy to grab and move and the Base 1L is much cheaper than buying a full second command set.  So that is the basis for my question...

Will the CAB 1-L and the new Legacy base have the module slots for software upgrades or will they be "frozen" in time with whatever version is released with them?

Going back to the original posters question I suspect that even if the CAB-2 can communicate with the new base he will only be able to have one base active in the house at any one time, aka the main layout OR the Christmas layout, not both.

Based on a number of posts we've seen with signals jumping to test setups not connected to anything else his Christmas layout may already be capable of Command operation without another base.  The only problem might be the distance between the CAB-2 and the Legacy base.

This was answered before.  I looked to find it.  Maybe it was at the LUG meeting.

The simple answer is no.  There is no data base in the Cab1L for the Cab 2 to connect to.  Whether it can "talk" in a dumb down mode (TMCC or CAB1) I doubt it.  I think the Cab2 relies on the base for too much of it's operation.

It has been advertised that the Cab1L will communicate with a Legacy base though.

Although I have no facts upon which to base this, I would suspect that the base unit may be able to be upgraded in the future via the serial port connection. The remote is a much simpler device than the CAB-2, and I would suspect that there is little that could be 'upgraded' via software.
