"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Several years ago I gave my sister a Marklin starter set to run in the village she has under her Christmas tree. This year the transformer gave up the ghost she needs the adapter that powers the transformer. I was wondering if a Lionel AC transformer would work since Marklin is AC. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi John!

I presume you have a Marklin AC analog set. A Lionel AC transformer will run the set, but Marklin AC trains reverse with a unique high voltage "spike" that your Lionel transformer does not have.

For a Christmas layout this may not be a problem, but if you plan on building a more complex layout I would suggest investing in a Marklin transformer.

Don,

My sister only uses the set once a year and just as long as the Christmas tree is up so no empire building here.

Thanks

John

Does the transformer (or adapter...not sure what that means) have a data plate or markings that indicate what its output is?  That will help us to determine what substitute can be used.

Arthur,

I asked my sister to take some pictures of the transformer and the adapter, The adapter is what plugs into the wall outlet  with a wire that goes to the transformer (box with direction control and speed knob).
