Here in Greensboro we are on the main line between DC and Atlanta. Over the last few weeks I have seen many CN and Red CP motive power mixed with NS trains Usually there is one odd engine in the 3nd 4th or 5th position sandwiched between another NS in the rear. I enjoy seeing something different by why are these units so far south?

It too cold up north...
Thank you, I'll be here all week...

Maybe the units are taking a mid-winter break just like many Canadians.
p.s. CN's network runs down as far the Gulf of Mexico.
More like horse power hours being equalized.
We've used this route a fair amount on shipments coming from our Canadian plants when headed to NS local points in the Southeast.

There have been a greater number of NS GE diesel Locos on the CN mainline from Chicago to South Bend to Lansing to Detroit or Port Huron.

Same situation applies to the NS Southern Tier west of Binghamton. I'd estimate at least 30% of the daily traffic has either CP or CN power in the consist. Autoracks have the most. BTW, from Binghamton some of the traffic heads up the D&H to Mechanicville while the rest heads south to Wilkes-Barre and Allentown or Sunbury and Enola.
A little off topic, but the rumors of CP selling all or part of the D&H toNS are making the rounds again. Seems to happen every few months so I wouldn't put too much stock in the story until one of the parties confirms it.

Hunter is running CP, so their might be something to this. But it's not over until it's OVER!
Not only am I seeing Canadian units I have been seeing a lot of UP and BNSF units. It is almost like a engine set is being complied to run through so that each road can have some skin in the game and not have to change units, just crews.

Here are some UP units coming north through Atlanta:
Co-incidentally, I'll be passing through your neck of the woods on tomorrow night's Crescent.

Yup.I shot that while waiting for the northbound Crescent a couple of years ago. Right as I post this I'm about 20 minutes from boarding the same train to head back down there.
