On our trips to Jersey, we like to make a detour off the PA turnpike to Nicholas Smith Trains (Forum Sponsor).  A couple of weeks ago we paid them a visit and met Dave.  We always marvel at the amount of stuff packed into that store.  Dave, replied, "This is nothing, want to see the back room?"  WOW... Train Heaven!  Dave gave us the tour of the place and mentioned that the store would have two booths at York.

We walked out of there with a few nice deals on track and roadbed, but my son was really eying an MTH Reading GP-30 PS3 diesel.  He had seen this engine in the catalog and immediately started saving his money.  This winter, snow was my sons best friend as he took every opportunity to shovel driveways to save money for this engine.  Dave saw how much my son liked the engine and said, "Maybe I'll bring it to York and you can check it out there."

Today at York, my son made a Bee Line (Pun intended for you Reading fans) for the Nicholas Smith booth at the rear of the Toyota hall.  There was Dave and he recognized my son.  "Ah yes... the boy who likes New York Central".  After an awkward pause from my son, Dave smiled and winked and said, "I brought the Reading engine, want to see it?"  Dave quoted a very generous price to my son who just happened to have exactly that same amount in his wallet.

As Dave counted the money he noted that my sons wallet was now empty.  He handed $10 back to my son and said, "Better buy your Dad some lunch today".

Customers for Life... That's what they just earned today at Nicholas Smith.

Thank You Dave!

Ron

In case anyone is curious, that is an MTH Reading GP-35 behind the GP-30.  My son has already created a Lash... uhm I mean an MU with the two.

Why post the photo of Chris Gans & the other guy, saying "this is the man" when this thread is about Dave specifically?  BTW, if anyone wants to see an actual photo of Dave (Parker, I believe) in his Nicholas Smith booth @ York, you can see it among the York photos MTH posted on its Facebook page yesterday (Friday).

Thought you might want to see some video... My son likes the ending shot the best.

The best parts are the 1st minute and the last :40 seconds.  But feel free to enjoy the whole 5 mins.

Five minutes and nine seconds and every second was "Quality Time"

Great story.  Glad your son got that engine.

Nicholas Smith is a must see store.  I live in MD and we took a trip to PA with the kids just to go there.  For those not familiar wit the store, the train shop is upstairs, and what I call an old-time toy store is on the first floor.  Just a fun place to go and visit.  And to buy something too!

Well worth the visit.
