not sure if i'm asking this in the right forum or not but I would like to know if anybody out there has tried legacy lashups and if so can you lashup both legacy and tmcc together at the same time, and if so how many engines can you lash together without causing power shortage problems I have a new zlw for track power and I have 12 different locos eight legacy and four tmcc all diesels. I of course would never try a twelve loco lashup but that would be something to see.

The short answer is no, legacy and tmcc locos don't usually play very well together in a lashup.
As far as the number of legacy locos allowed - I'm not sure if the control system has a limit. I believe that I've had 4 at one time. I left them uncoupled just so i could see if they maintained their inch of space between each other and they did.
The real question is your power supply up for the challenge. If it's a zw-l then it probably is ready.

Back to the original question, graz has it right.  I avoid TMCC and Legacy lashups.  Some folks have had success but I don't have the patience.

As far as a lashup and how many, that would be dependent on the power source, the ZW-L in this case is a good option, wiring, whether all the smoke units are on, and the load.  I would suspect without smoke units you could do your 8 Legacy engines but would probably be getting close to topping out.

Running Lionel engines together can get complicated, from what I've heard. The variables are Legacy engines, TMCC engines w/o Odyssey, TMCC engines with Odyssey without an on/off switch, and TMCC engines with newer Odyssey electronics with an on/off switch.

It seems pretty clear that Legacy engines and TMCC Odyssey engines don't do well together. Two TMCC with Odyssey engines can be run together, at least with some engines, but they run better if one of the Odyssey engines has the Odyssey turned off. Ultimately, engines just have be run together in different modes to see if they will work together without conflict.

The foregoing is what I remember, but I may easily be wrong or not have recalled it correctly.

This wasn't friction.  I don't think anyone is really upset.  Experiment.  That's always the best experience but U suspect your TMCC / Legacy lashups will be harder to accomplish than a Legacy / Legacy or in most cases a TMCC / TMCC lashup.

Good luck and let us know what you find.  It's always good to share experiences.  Also include the engine types and if possible product number.  It will be interesting to see what plays well together.
