All the time. I get distracted by other things, and then something triggers it to come back. It happens in my other hobbies too.

Case and point, I enjoy vintage phonographs. Last year I took apart the reproducer in one of them, and let it sit. Yesterday (after working on my Lionel 98 Coal Loader), I came in my room, laid down, and glanced over in the general direction of that phonograph. Well, next thing I knew I was cleaning all the junk off of it and getting a parts list together to finish the rebuild.

Many times it's looking at the weekend pictures post here that jumpstarts me back on my own layout.   Mine is under heavy construction now so it sometimes seems overwhelming, but I'm just taking it one step at a time.  Last night I went up and finished cutting the OSB Board for the yard and then cleaned up the room so I could see the floor again!

And I thought that I was the only one.

Between genealogy, yard work, and spending a lot of time with the grandkids, I keep wondering where the summer has gone.  I completely agree that it doesn't take much to get the "train bug" back.  The monthly show in the Chicago area at the DuPage County Fairgrounds usually works.

Art you are not the only one who gets distracted from the trains. I am currently distracted from them. with every thing going on with the Sandwich fair cumeing up next week I don't see my self having time to get back to them till the 8th of September. Then I'm sure their will be something else on my plate to take care of. I hope this winter will a rive soon. Not that I like winter but so things will slow down with the out side work.

It stems from no motivation,  dis -engagement, lack of enthusiasm... and usually occurs in summer.

Mine usually occurs when a certain critical step is required like wiring, bench-work, or working under the layout for large periods of time... this will usually required a jump start... a new locomotive or passenger equipment will help things out here.

Periodically, my muse will wander off and then I find that I when I go into my workshop that the most constructive activity I can participate in is turning around and turning off the lights.  Projects will lie dormant for weeks, months, and in one case now, years.  Having a deadline to meet and having to write articles helps, but only seems to force the project that pertains to forward while the others just sit there (laughing at me).

Then, for no apparent reason, I walk in the shop, pick something up, and like pebbles down a hill, I'm back to full blast on 3-5 projects.  Ok, that one project is still off to the side laughing at me, but someday, yes someday, it will rue the day that it landed on my workbench.

Now if I could only get that lousy assistant of mine to do any tidying up.

Igor!  Get in here and get to work!
